Extended fall schedule for North Fork and Palouse Ranger District campgrounds
All of the developed campgrounds on the Clearwater National Forest’s North Fork and Palouse Ranger Districts will be open through the middle of October.
According to North Fork and Palouse Ranger District Recreation Staff Officer Adam McClory, the public has been requesting that facilities stay open longer into the fall.
“We have received a number of requests from the public, hoping to use our developed campgrounds as a base for recreation into the fall season,” he explained. “Fall can be a great time to visit our campgrounds – fewer bugs, less crowds and nice colors. Keeping these facilities available for use will allow visitors to spend even more time on the Clearwater.”
Campgrounds on the Palouse Ranger District, including Elk Creek, Little Boulder, Giant White Pine and Laird Park will close Oct. 13, 2009, with fees being charged through that date. McClory noted that water at these sites will be turned off on Oct. 5. Elk Creek Campground, which normally has six reservable sites, will become first-come, first-served throughout the campground beginning Sept. 30.
On the North Fork Ranger District, Washington Creek campground will close Oct. 13, with fees being charged through that date.
The remaining campgrounds on the district, including Noe Creek, Hidden Creek, Kelly Forks and Aquarius will charge fees through Oct. 13 and remain open weather permitting. At all district campgrounds, water will be turned off on Sept. 28. There is no garbage collection at these sites, so please remember to pack-it-in/pack-it-out.
