John Cox was in St. Joe’s for nine days, returned to Weippe on Monday. Sandy says he is doing a lot better and they appreciate the cards and help from friends and neighbors.

Sandy’s brother, Gary Fitzgerald of Topock, AZ died Thursday, Aug 20, 2009. Gary used to own the Elkhorn Bar before he moved in the early 1980s. There will be no services. If you would like to send condolences to his wife Sharon, the address is:

Sharon Fitzgerald, PO Box 505, Topck, AZ 86436.

Couple of interesting things happened recently…I called Sherrys to have flowers sent to my daughter-in-law in Nampa as she was recovering from surgery. My son said when he opened the door the deliverer stood there holding the flowers and said,”Who do you know in Weippe?” When he replied, “my mom,” the woman said she was raised in Weippe. Unfortunately he didn’t think to get her name.

We stopped at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown last week on our way to Fort Lewis, WA. While chatting with the woman in the Shop at the Barn, we mentioned we lived in Weippe. Her name is Julie Hartwig and turns out she is related to Sally Marks of Weippe.

My son-in-law heard an acquaintance of his from Oak Harbor, WA had moved to Weippe so he went to town and located him last week.

Weippers are a slippery bunch. They are here, there and everywhere.

My grandson who is in the Army left for his second tour of Iraq Monday. My daughter and I went to Fort Lewis to see him before he left. As a result of not being in the area last week I don’t have much news and actually I don’t really have the heart for it.
