Lots of activity in town this weekend for the Wild Weippe Rodeo. The parade offered floats, more fire equipment than I knew was available (makes one feel safe), vintage cars, beautifully groomed rodeo queens on beautifully groomed horses, donkeys, kids on various wheeled vehicles, even a stagecoach. There was candy galore and lots of scrambling for it.
Craft and food vendors lined the streets selling their products with plenty of customers. The Wesleyan Church, Weippe Fire Dept. ICANN, Weippe Heritage Museum and the Rebekahs all had booths. Lisa of the Fire Dept. says they sold a lot of food and appreciate the support from the community, and, by the way, they are still looking for volunteer firefighters.
A trio of youngsters from Headquarters were offering their hand crafted (with the help of chain saws) bears. The bears were made of cedar, some stood about four feet high, although they had varying sizes. I didn't get the name of the family. If anybody knows who they are, please pass it on.
Jamie Weese is the Wild Weippe Rodeo Queen for 2010.
The cowboy breakfast on Sunday was hearty and filling. A big plus is the visiting that goes on during the breakfast. Many former residents return for the rodeo, which offers the opportunity to visit with out-of-town friends, and meet new people.
There is information on parade and rodeo winners elsewhere in the paper so I am not going to duplicate that here.
Dolores Watson's great niece Kelly Reininger from Clarkston visited and had lunch with Dolores. She brought her children; Taylor, Skye, Connor, Boston and their friend.
Jim Waldron's cousin Ray Chambers and wife Arlene from the Portland area visited the Waldron's last week.
Arlene and Cecil Ball entertained their children, spouses, and grandchildren the 1st week of August. Their son Rod was attending his 40th high school class reunion. He was accompanied by his wife Mona, and youngest son, Cody. Cody will be playing college basketball in South Dakota, at Mount Marty College.
Rod’s other children that couldn’t make the trip are: Danny, who finished law school at the University of Michigan last year; Ryan, who is in his second year of law school at Southern Methodist University (SMU); and Dana, who will be entering her first year of law school at SMU.
Daughter Kathy was accompanied to her parent’s home by her husband Scott, and two sons. Kathy’s oldest son, James, has been a member of a State Championship club soccer team for three straight years. He will be sophomore at Eagle High school, and recently was named to the varsity soccer team, and kicker on the varsity football team. Kathy’s youngest son, Michael, will be an 8th grader at Eagle Middle school, and as an accelerated math student, he will be taking high school Geometry and Algebra II. Michael will be competing in club soccer, as a goalkeeper, for Idaho Rush this fall.
Meal lunch Thursday, Aug 20 is beef stew, chef salad, peaches and cake. On Monday, Aug. 24 is fried chicken, carrot/raisin salad with potatoes and peas and pears for dessert. All are invited. It's a congenial atmosphere. Come, have a cup of coffee and chat. There are puzzles and sometimes they play bingo, especially if you ask 'em nice.
Briefly, the Council approved subdivision of block 6 Brown's addition proposing 11 individual lots.
