C-PTPA weekly fire update
Last week’s lightning storms sent Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protection Association (C-PTPA) crews into action this past week, as they fought 15 lightning holdover fires. Each fire was contained to one-tenth of an acre.
Eight of the fires were near Headquarters, five were in Elk River, and two in Orofino.
“The rain saved us,” explained Kevin Korbel, Fire Program Planner for C-PTPA. Orofino received 1.08 inches of rain, which really made a difference in the potential spread of those fires.
Even with the recent precipitation, fire danger is still moderately high. The community is reminded to remain cautious throughout the summer to ensure keeping wildland and forest fires to a minimum.
