School food service program bakes for Idaho’s Governor

Joint School District 171’s food service program will provide buns for the prime rib sandwiches that will be served to Idaho’s Governor, Butch Otter and fellow attendees at the Pierce Sesquicentennial gathering to be held at the Pierce Community Center Wednesday, Aug. 4. Governor Otter will make the City of Pierce Idaho’s capital for a day.

Pierce Major, Greg Gerot and wife Diane came up with the idea as a way of supporting local schools. Although it isn’t every day you get to prepare food for the Governor, it is not unusual for the school kitchen to receive requests for their homemade breads, cookies and cinnamon rolls.

Kathy Hodges, Timberline kitchen manager, will get the privilege of making the 288 buns for this special occasion.

Festivities will begin at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served at the Pierce Courtyard Park at 12 p.m. The event is open to the public.
