   Tanna Renee Pippenger and Kevin Gerald Zywina are pleased to announce their forthcoming marriage July 15.

    New self-service gas and diesel station will open by late June by the Glenwood IGA. The owner of the new business is Valley Visions, LLC, Brett, Tanna, Paul and Lee Pippenger.

   Fifty-four new trees are being planted in different locations in downtown this spring and summer.

   Sallie Wilhelm was named the Orofino Rotary Club Teacher of the Year.

   Konkolville Tavern was closed on May 27 according to Konkpl Lumber President Don Konkol. John Garrison, RPT, will be opening Orofino Physical Therapy at its new location July 1.

   Harmony Haveman will participate in an incredible 6,000 mile, 30-day journey this summer; it includes stops in 13 major cities and appearances at the national Lutheran Youth gathering in St. Louis, Mo.

   Orofino will have a new dentist, Michael Miller D.D.S. He will be practicing as a new partner of Lynn Wentz, D.D.S. in the office located on Ahsahka Road.

   Clearwater County dug itself out of a blanket of volcanic ash discharged from Mount St. Helenís eruption, 280 miles west, bringing the most severe dust condition in county history. The cloud of ash obliterated the sun about 3 p.m. Sunday like a total eclipse and cut down traveling in most directions.

   Pat Loseth, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Loseth, received a BS in nursing from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas May 17.

   Betty Crutcher was the winner of the Yamaha trail bike given away by the Orofino Progressive Merchants during their May Daze promotion.

   The 1970 preliminary population count for Clearwater County has been estimated at 10,757, which is 2,209 more persons than in 1960 when the official count was 8,548.

   1970 Ford Maverick No. 80, big 6 cyl engine, special interior accent pkg, W.S.W. tires, radio, $2280 at P.J. Ford.

50 Years Ago

   Church of God members dedicated a new Riverside Church structure May 15.

   Andy Konkol, Max Walker and Delbert Roby are home after six days of excellent sturgeon fishing in the Snake River.

   Harold Kinne Post #3296 Veteran of Foreign Wars is observing its 25th anniversary this month. Bill Bird is completing seven years as service officer for the group.

   Price of milk goes up. Quarts of milk in paper cartons now retail at 25 cents and paper half gallons at 50 cents in local stores.

   Bids for $100,000 for the Veterans Building were let and construction is expected to start soon.

60 Years Ago

   Four graduating seniors from Orofino High School were honored by being chosen on the Western Idaho All-Star basketball and football teams. Pete Nygaard and Pat Hayes, forwards who won two successive State Champion B Championships, were named to the Western basketball team.

   Chuck Brown and Jack Williams, two of the best backs ever to play at OHS, will play in the All-Star football game.
