Diane Gerot from Studio 205 in Pierce was the guest presenter during the first week of Weippe Library’s summer reading program.    The Weippe Hilltop Heritage Society's museum building expansion project is underway as there are currently more exhibits than space.

   The sides are up, now a roof is needed. To accomplish this they are having a bazaar Saturday, June 27 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Weippe Park. To add to the fun a barbecue will be available from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

   Many interesting items have been assembled. Come find your special item. If you have something you would like to donate, call Doris at 435-4568 or Lorna at 435-9331.

   Susan Adams called with a reminder of the Open House to celebrate Elata and Emerald Hutchins’ 50th wedding anniversary. The Open House is Saturday, June 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Orofino Country Club.

   Lori McMillen says the Hilltop Community Picnic is Sunday, June 28, 1 o’clock and will be held at the Weippe Mini-Park. If it rains, the picnic will be inside the community hall. It is a potluck, Please bring your own table service. All are welcome. Call Lori at 435-4769 if you have questions.

   GED tutoring is offered in Weippe. You can get a GED assessment, learn beginning computer skills and brush up on your math and language skills by calling 476-5731. Tutoring and assessment are free.

   Shirley and Bill Kautz, formerly of Weippe, are camp hosts at Riverbend Campground, 28 miles out of Salem, OR, until Labor Day. Their granddaughter, Jessica Ann Bloomer, graduated June 12 from Eastern Oregon University with a 4.0 in Education. Jessica's parents are Matt and Cindy (Kautz) Bloomer of Sandy, OR. A graduation party was held in her honor for family and friends.

   Winnie had a birthday June 13. She had not seen her son, Bill Croft, for four years. Bill and his wife Sharon, who are from Fort Worth, TX visited for Winnie’s birthday and celebrated by taking her out to dinner and presenting her with a birthday gift. Happy Birthday, Winnie.

   Thursday the Hilltop Senior Center is serving old fashioned hamburgers with potato salad and fruit. Monday, June 29, the menu is chili dogs, green salad with fruit.

   Melissa says the first week of Summer Reading at the Weippe Library got off to a great start. Diane Gerot was the guest presenter (see photo). She did a wonderful job of showing the kids some art techniques.

   They have special presentations every Wednesday at 1 p.m., and crafts every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the end of July. On Wednesday, July 1, Brittney Goodrich will be doing a presentation on Chalk Art.

   Take note…Teen Night for Girls has been changed from Thursday, June 25 to Saturday, June 27 from 6-9 p.m. The Teen Night for Guys Only is still on for Friday the 26th from 6-9 p.m. All families of all ages are invited to a Family Game Night on Wednesday, July 1st from 6-9 p.m., also.  If you have any questions on these events, please call Melissa at the library.
