School board okays maintenance/operation budget

School District #171 board approved Monday the $3,916,835 maintenance and operation budget for the forthcoming school year.

The June 1 district enrollment was 1,130 students. The number of students is down four students from the previous month and down 95 students from last year’s enrollment in June.

Other business conducted by the board included:

Sarah Potratz was hired by the board as Orofino High math teacher.

Results of the telephone survey last week on a proposed bond election for the district’s building fund will be reviewed at a special meeting July 8 at the school district office.

Progressive Engineers gave the board a $275,000 cost estimate on the Timberline Wastewater System Improvement project. No decision was made. Members felt if some of the prep work was done beforehand costs could be reduced.

Bids on replacement of Orofino Elementary gym roof will be received through June 30.

The board decided to keep the programs office at its current location.

Sharilynn Kelly, school psychologist, will take on the responsibilities as special education director and will work with Supt. Dale Durkee in that position.

Sallie Wilhelm, a former Orofino Junior High teacher, who retired this year received a warm response on her presentation of her years of drug education instructor at the school.
