Orofino Fourth of July celebration

By Dee Burgett

As Independence Day approaches we look forward to our veterans today and yesterday for what they represent. We need to acknowledge and recognize the value of these brave and courageous men and women in their increasing sacrifice for our freedom. In honor of your service to our country, we would like to invite all military veterans past and present, to share in Orofino’s Fourth of July parade celebration to be held Sunday, July 4 at 5:30 p.m.

The parade will coincide with the Orofino Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July celebration which includes a fundraiser BBQ by the Rotary Club, live music, raft race, log drive, and topping off the evening will be fireworks at Orofino City Park. This year’s theme is “Home of the Free Because of the Brave.”

All persons are welcome to participate in the Veteran’s Parade. Entry forms are available at the following places, VFW Post 3296 Michigan Ave., Clearwater Tribune, Main St. Orofino Chamber of Commerce, 1st St., and Video Flicks, Main St. These forms need to be returned to place of pick-up by Friday, July 2. (The Clearwater Tribune will be closed July 2, so please return forms by July 1, or take them to Video Flicks instead.)

Parade line up for veterans and others participating will form at Orofino VFW at 4:45 p.m. with the parade starting at 5:30 p.m. It will proceed down Michigan Ave and continue onto Johnson Ave. The veteran’s color guard, women’s auxiliary and the veteran’s float will proceed into the Orofino City Park for the flag raising ceremony.

All military men and women are cordially invited to partake in the 2010 4th of July parade celebration. For those veterans unable to walk in parade, transportation will be provided by means of a decorated float.

For more information, veterans can contact Quartermaster Lou Roane, JR. or Commander Allen Brockmann at the Orofino VFW at 476-4117 or Dee Burgett, coordinator at 476-7475.

We look forward to celebrating this great day and appreciate all that our American soldiers have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for the United States of America. When you see our veterans please take time to thank these distinguished men and women for their dedicated service.
