Clearwater County receives $4,000 in grants

   The Idaho Community Foundation has awarded $4,000 to two Clearwater County organizations as part of $176,753 in grants given to 77 organizations in 10 counties in North Idaho.

   Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinics, Inc. will receive $2,000 to buy equipment to promote infant health, and the Clearwater Youth Alliance, $2,000 to purchase curriculum and training for adult/youth mentoring.

   North Idaho grants ranged in size from $591 to the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene to purchase curriculum for a science and math component of its preschool program to $5,000 each to St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood, Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville, First Book — Kootenai County, the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill — Coeur d’Alene.

   There were 142 applications, totaling $598,875.

   “We are blessed with generous donors,” said Alice Hennesey, interim CEO and president of the foundation. “We appreciate their continuing support in helping us fund projects that enrich the quality of life throughout Idaho.”

   In Idaho County, $2,500 was given to the Camas Prairie Pre-School to replace the cooking/learning center.

   In Lewis County, $2,500 was received for the Idaho Foodbank Warehouse, Inc.

   In Nez Perce County, $4,902 was received for the Community Action Agency to help low-income families leave poverty.

   The Idaho Community Foundation is a statewide nonprofit organization composed of more than 400 individual funds, pooled together for efficient management. Total assets at year end 2008 were approximately $55 million. Since its inception in 1988, ICF has made charitable distributions in all 44 counties in Idaho totaling more than $44 million.
