Isaac Brandt and Matt Goetsch are co-Valedictorians of the Orofino High School class of 1999. Mike Elsbury is class Salutatorian. Isaac is the son of Joanne and Mark Brandt and Matt is the son of Don and Kathy Goetsch and Mike is the son of John and Nancy Jo Elsbury of Peck.
Paula Bonner, daughter of Rodney and Donna Bonner of Pierce, is Timberline High School Valedictorian. Matt Potratz, son of Mike and Carol Potratz of Pierce is Salutatorian.
The ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication for the Orofino Bridge was held May 27 at Heritage Park at the north end of the bridge.

Timberline High School National Honor Society members were recently recognized at a school assembly. Members of this elite group are Chris Brown, Teresa Anderson, Julie Lougee, Phil Berreth, Lori Morris, Kathy Hutchins, Ann Bennett, Jaime Ward and John Berreth.
Viking Voices of Orofino Junior High School received a superior rating for their performance at the Distinct II Music Festival. Choir members are Beth Clark, Brenda Milligan, Laura Goetsch, Jodi Kroupa, Tracey Moore, Christina Cooper, Kim Davie, Danika Walters, Michelle Bryant, Curtis Griffin and Michelle Robertson.

Heavy rains that drenched the Clearwater Basin brought river and creek levels up to seasonal highs. The three day storm caused some flooding on the North Fork and in the Kelly Creek area.
Timberline High School Valedictorian is Lezlie Dean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Dean of Pierce and Michael Ray Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mick Jackson of Weippe has been named salutatorian.
Michelle Ziwisky was crowned queen of Orofino Lumberjack Days and Carrie Cuddy and Donelle Naphier princesses.
High School baton students of Pam Clift recently participated in the Asotin parade. Twirlers are Carrie Cuddy, Donelle Naphier, Brenda Lacey, Kim Jackson, Debbie Harroun and Kitty Naphier.

Opening of a new $115,000 modern Shell three bay ranch type service station was accomplished by Harold Stump at a newly developed location just off the approach to the Orofino Bridge.

Two tons of polished granite from 100 feet below Dworshak Dam is the 42 inch diameter Calyx drill specimen brought out to decorate the front of the Idaho First National Bank. Ket Hanson of Hanson Garage used his auto wrecking equipment to salvage the prize core from the rising waters of the North Fork.
Peggy Sue Corder, daughter of Mr. and Melvin Corder was honored at an assembly at the Orofino Elementary School for having completed her sixth year of school without ever being absent or tardy.

Newman Lumber Company Inc. has completed arrangements to purchase Orofino Properties at Glenwood of Orofino Milling Co. Inc. The planing mill and adjacent grounds formerly occupied by Gwen Shearer’s saw mill and now under the management of a new corporation is to be named Newman Prep Co, Inc.

Orofino baseball fans may again look forward to enjoying home games in comfort as the city council announced that plans are underway for the construction of a new modern grandstand.
Dedication exercises for the first and only Protestant Church in Pierce was May 25.

Prospects are now that Orofino’s new post office will be under construction by July 1.
Plans for about 200 miles of electric lines, supplemental to the present REA system of the Clearwater Valley Light and Power Association are being prepared. About 600 members will be served.
