Appaloosa Express Transit is the topic of upcoming CHNC meeting
Della Carter, director of Appaloosa Express Transit will share what the service offers with Clearwater Human Needs Council (CHNC) members at their regular general council meeting at noon Tuesday, June 16, at Krystal Café.
Appaloosa Express provides transportation service to Lenore, Greer, Orofino, Kamiah, Kooskia, Culdesac, Lapwai, and Lewiston including the Clearwater River and Itse' Ye Ye casinos. There are fixed-route services, daily passes and on-demand services.
At a recent CHNC meeting, Mary Johnson (pictured) spoke about all the
activities at the Nez Perce Tribe Teweepuu Center located east of Orofino off
Hwy. 12.
The center is one of three centers owned by the Nez Perce Tribe. The other two are in Lapwai and Kamiah. The Teweepuu Center is funded by allocations from Tribal gaming and from Youth Affair.
Regular programs at the center include Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, senior citizens lunches, and Weight Watchers’ meetings, The center is also open during regular business hours for people interested in using the exercise equipment.
Other regular programs housed within the center are Nez Perce language lessons, which are offered throughout the school year and Niimiipuu Health Wellness meetings.
A wide variety of other programs and activities have also been held at the facility including the Nez Perce Tribe’s Executive Committee bi-annual meeting, Native Vote information, Circle of Elders meetings, NPTEC candidate forums, NPT Probation/Parole meetings, and drumming classes, as well as Census job training orientation, Students for Success classes, budgeting classes, holiday craft classes, holiday parties and activities.

Among her responsibilities as coordinator of the center, Johnson plans annual activities, puts together a monthly calendar, posts weekly job announcements with Tribal entities, posts community announcements and serves on the boards of several organizations.
She has also been very involved with fund raising for the rebuilding of the Nez Perce Indian Northfork Presbyterian Church
