CLEARWATER TRIBUNE HOME

ICARE update

By Dee Crane

ICARE (Cancer Assistance & Recovery Effort) was established in March 2008 by members of the Clearwater Valley Chapter of Idaho Outfitters & Guides Association (CVC-IOGA) in memory of a very special person, Diana Latch, who fought the battle of cancer for many years.

The purpose of ICARE is to provide financial aid to people throughout the Clearwater Valley area who are actively receiving treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses. The project is funded solely by donations and is specifically a means to provide financial support for miscellaneous expenses such as gas, lodging, food, babysitter, etc. associated with one’s major illness.

ICARE has benefited 20 families in the communities of Orofino, Pierce, Kamiah, Kooskia, Weippe, Deary, Ferdinand and Harpster. It has dispersed a total of $8,050. With the support of caring folks around our communities, it will continue to be a blessing to many others.

Our goal is to never turn down a single person due to a lack of funds. Fifty percent of the profits from the Spring Round-Up, held annually in Orofino on the second Saturday of April, will be given to the ICARE project. This year, ICARE received $3,790.41 from the event.

Additionally, donation forms are available through various merchants, making it easy for folks to learn more and be supportive whenever it is convenient for them.

A leather ribbon with a silver heart and red crystal symbolizes that you are a supporter of the ICARE   project and as a reminder of those you know who are struggling. Area outfitters are making these ribbons that are available in the various communities of the Clearwater Valley. ICARE jewelry, sweatshirts and caps are also available for sale.
