The camas is blooming…perfect timing for the 10th Weippe Camas Festival this weekend. Weippe will be bustling with the race, horseshoe tournament, speakers, and presentations. The Hilltop Players have been rehearsing diligently under the direction of Susie Larson and will be in top form Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. There will be luscious samplings of food, including the Rebekahs’ festival pie booth.

Lisa Weyerts, Weippe Fire Department spokesperson, said the annual Fire Department auction had good attendance this year and brought in almost double last year’s yield. Lisa said there was not as much merchandise to auction, but the quality was good and was reflected in the sale prices. The Fire Department appreciates the donations and participation by the community.

Fire Department raffle winners were Steve Brand, Betsy Stemrich, and Mike McHone.

Dolores Watson, accompanied by her daughter, Sue Wyatt, went to a doctor’s appointment in Spokane recently. While there, they had lunch with Dora Taylor, a childhood friend of Dolores. After marriage, they lost track of each other for about 50 years but were reunited in 1998.

Bill Sellers announces the Weippe-Fraser Recreation District is partnering with the Pierce Pool to offer half price swim lessons to all children who live within the district’s boundaries. You can sign up by calling the Pierce Pool at 464-2443. Also, anyone who wants to swim during the open swim times this summer can swim for free… until the program’s money runs out. Just sign up when you come to swim.

You must live within the Weippe-Fraser Recreation District’s boundaries to qualify for these programs. Questions? Call Bill at 435-4698.

Condolences to Michelle Berreth whose father, Fredrick “Fred” Rood passed away May 13 at Overlake Medical Hospital in Bellevue, WA.

Congratulations to Senior Austin Blain for his outstanding performance at the Idaho State 3A/2A/1A track meet in Boise. Austin won gold in the 1600 with a time of 4:39.78, after finishing second in the 3200 and 800 earlier in the meet.
