Thursday's power outage blamed on equipment failure

Equipment failure at Avista Utilities' electrical substation near Orofino is believed to be the cause of a power outage last Thursday.

The outage, which knocked out electricity to nearly 2,000 Avista customers from Orofino to Grangeville on May 14, began at approximately 3:15 p.m. and lasted until 9:30 p.m.

The equipment failure affected three large feeder lines at the substation. It is unknown at this time what caused the equipment to fail.
