OROFINO BOYS ARE DISTRICT 3A CHAMPS--The
Orofino
High School Boys’ Baseball Team
defeated Timberlake May 15 at District 3A action here in Orofino,
making them the District 3A Champions.

Maniacs go to state
With wins over St.
Maries and Timberlake, May 14-15, the Maniacs won the 3A District
I-II tournament to secure a ticket to State. The Maniacs face

Ontario,
OR at 9 a.m.

Nick Pomponio set
the tone early by crushing a grand slam to left field in the first
inning as Orofino took out St. Maries in five innings to start the
3A District I-II Tournament.
Pomponio ended up
with two hits and five RBI for the game, and starting pitcher Ricky
Breeden limited St. Maries to just four hits to claim the win.
Seth Melton and
Adam Wilson each had three hits for the Maniacs, while Michael Welch
had two.
"We squared up on
the ball pretty darn good," Orofino coach Bo Cummings said.

The Maniacs used
home runs from Michael Welch and Ricky Breeden to pound Timberlake
13-4.
Welch was the
starter on the mound and also had five hits at the plate - including
a two-run homer in the sixth.
Breeden had a big
three-run homer in the crucial fifth inning, as Orofino blew open a
1-1 tie by scoring seven runs. The Maniacs had 17 hits on the day,
including two doubles from freshman Ryan Schlieper at the No. 9
spot.
"Seventeen hits,
I'm a happy camper," Maniacs coach Bo Cummings said.

Stamper sets new personal
best
Maniac track and field athletes competed at the
3A District I-II meet May 14-5. Monique Stamper extended her
personal record to 10-6 to win the girls' pole vault for Orofino at
the 3A District I-II meet.
Orofino's only win on the second and final day
of the 3A District I-II meet came in the boys' 800-meter relay. The
Maniacs were timed in a season-best 1:35.40.
Top 4 individuals, winning relays to state.
State competition begins May 20 at
Boise.

Timberline District Track
Timberline boys led 1A at the end of the first day of 2A/1A District
I-II track competition May 14. Timberline’s Austin Blain knocked
more than two seconds off his personal record in the 1A boys' 800,
winning in an area-best time of 1:58.64 as part of his triple
distance victory over the two-day meet.
Qualifiers now advance to the state meet, which
begins May 20 at
Boise.
