   Official groundbreaking is planned for Brookside Landing, a 42 unit retirement and assistant living center.

   Scotty Bell, a senior at Orofino High School, has been selected to be on the Idaho wrestling team for the 3rd annual Down Under International Games in July 2000.

15 Years Ago

   Rachel Lewis was chosen to reign as queen over the 1995 Orofino Lumberjack Days. Princesses are Cherish Wilmarth and Jenna Carrico.

   Jamie Hibbard and Casey Waggener were voted most valuable in wrestling and Justin Petersen most inspirational.

   Bob Leonard, Pierce, made a hole-in-one at the Orofino Golf Course on #3 hole, 150 yards, and par 3 with an 8 iron. Tom Freeman, Don Cochran and Jim Brown witnessed the event.

   Allison Brandt spent her last day as Clearwater County deputy Friday. She started her new job as Kootenai County deputy public defender.

   Stacy Ramont graduated from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. May 11 with a B.A. in Psychology. Stacy is the daughter of Ray and Pat Ramont.

   Nancy and John Elsbury, Peck, are the parents of a son born May 11 at Lewiston.

   Timberline High School boy’s track team members are Rich Eisensohn, Jeff Wendt, Elias Leikanger, Tony Fitzwater, Craig Bowmer, Greg Anderson, Dale Allen, Tony Stebbens, Bill Brown, James Kirby, Fonney Hendren, Kelly Eisensohn, Dave Jared, Jesse Mathes, Dee McKinley, Joel Johnstun, and Adam Vargovich,

   Queen for the District III rodeo in Lewiston is Tawnya Lage, a junior at Timberline High School. She is the daughter of Sonny and Carolyn Lage of Weippe.

   Thirty-one male prisoners will be coming to the Idaho Correctional Institute-Orofino within the next two weeks. The second wing of the ground floor has been remolded to house the men with new gang showers, dormitory sleeping and some two person rooms. Maximum capacity is 54.

   Temperatures hit the 71 mark on the last day of April, terminating a   prolonged spell of cold that set new records for a delayed spring in Clearwater Valley. The mercury dropped back to 54 Monday but by Wednesday was back up to the 70s.

   Resumptions of brush piling work on the Musselshell logging operation by use of 46 German internees due here next week was made by the Clearwater Forest Service. Germans worked in the area last year and will be used again unless war conditions alter the international provisions.

   It was announced by officials of the North Idaho Sanitarium of this village of the purchase of 323 acres of timber and cut-over land lying four miles southwest of the village on Wells Bench. This purchase was in keeping with the plans to make the institution self-supporting as far as all needed products are concerned.
