Wilson gives OPD update In his regular report to
the City Council meeting May 11, Orofino Chief of Police,
Jeff Wilson, gave an overview of events occurring in the
Pierce-Weippe Chamber meeting minutes The
Chamber was invited to be the guests of honor at the THS
Academic Awards Banquet. Members were introduced: Harv and
Colleen Nelson, Charlene and Joe Douglas, Rob Harrell, Kathy
Coles, Greg and Diane Gerot, Rhonda Snyder, Mitch and Julie
Jared and guest, Gerry Burnett.
Ray Kessinger, son of A. Jay and the late DonLina Lund
Kessinger of Orofino, received his medical degree at the
graduation ceremony for the Touro University College of
Osteopathic Medicine Nevada held at the Paris Hotel in Las
Vegas, NV on May 16.

best of my knowledge Larry and Chris Coonts were the first
persons from Orofino, outside the immediate family, to see
the Howlands’ newborn twin boys since their return from NICU
at Sacred Heart in Spokane.
Play practice well underway Diane
Hairston, play director for the Clearwater Memorial Public
Library’s Mystery Dinner Theater to be held June 11, 12,
and 13, has announced that character parts are all assigned,
and practice began in earnest this week for the “event of
the year” to be held at the High Country Inn.
Orofino income survey May 26-27 The Orofino Mayor Ryan
Smathers and the City Council would like the citizens of
Orofino to know that the city will be conducting a random
Low to Moderate Income (LMI) Survey to determine our
community's eligibility for an Idaho Community Development
Block Grant (ICDBG).
District 171 Facility Workgroup recommends construction bond
School District 171 held
a Facility Workgroup meeting May 17, to discuss building
plans for proposed new facilities within the district.
Superintendent Dale Durkee said that the Workgroup’s task
was to examine the needs and the buildings, and to make
recommendations to the board on their findings.
Timberline High School held its annual Awards Banquet May
12. This annual event is to honor academic excellence in
pupils and acknowledge parents for their contributions
resulting in the success of their children.
