Happenings on the Hilltop…
(Weippe news)

Judy O'Brien 435-4870

I mistakenly put the Weippe Cemetery cleanup/workday as May 5 and sincerely hope nobody came to work. Christine reminded me the correct date is Saturday, May 15 at 8 a.m.

Weippe Fire Department will be having their annual fire auction May 15 starting at 10 a.m., running until last item sold. Fire members are at the fire hall all day to collect items to be donated for auction.

Raffle tickets are also being sold by the fire department. Tickets are $1, with $100 in merchandise from local merchants for the winner.

Anyone wishing to donate items or wanting tickets can call the Weippe Fire Department at 435-9015 or contact Chief Cahala at 435-0136 or Lisa Weyerts, 435-4030

Arts & crafts vendors – space is still available for outside vendors at the Camas Festival, Saturday, May 29 from 9 to 4. Because this is the 10th anniversary of the Camas Festival, spaces are only $10. Contact Nancy Lombard at 435-4455 to reserve your space.

There are lots of opportunities to participate during the Camas Festival; the fun run, photo contest and vendor spaces, in addition to all the presentations/demonstrations.

I appreciate the assistance of the community in obtaining news for this column. Within the next few weeks, a new “stringer” will be reporting the Weippe news. The term “stringer” comes from the old system of measuring the length of a column by use of a string, which was then transferred to column inches, indicating amount of payment to the reporter or “stringer.”

Nancy Tschida will be the new “stringer”. Please send your news to her at
