Kids’ fishing day is Saturday,
May 15
The 20th annual Kids’
Fishing day, sponsored by Dworshak National Fish Hatchery, will be Saturday, May
15 from
Children 12 years and
under will be able to catch up to two large rainbow trout. Bait, tackle and
equipment will be provided. Children are encouraged to bring their own
equipment, if they have any. Children will also receive a prize and a bag of ice
to keep their fish fresh for the trip home. All activities are free of charge.
Children and families
can choose to participate in a variety of other fishing-related activities
taking place at the pond, including Gyotaku (Japanese fish printing) where kids
of all ages are welcome to try their hand at decorating and printing a model
fish on paper. The local 4th grade students’ entries for the Kids’ Fishing Day
Poster Contest will be on display for the public and winners will be announced.
The Clearwater County Sheriffs Department is staffing a jet ski simulation
display, and other exhibits and displays will be available.
Lunch fare will be
offered by Orofino Boy Scout Troop #536 at a concession stand. Hayden George and
Ben Palmer are providing leadership in this fundraiser in order to generate
funds for their Eagle Scout projects. Fish up an appetite, and then support our
local youth.
This popular event is
part of Take Me Fishing activities sponsored across the country. Both Dworshak
Hatchery and the Nez Perce Tribe are excited to offer kids the chance to learn
the lifelong sport of fishing, and are looking forward to a good turnout again
this year.
