Pierce-Weippe Chamber Profile: The Outback
Harv and Colleen Nelson are owners of The Outback in Pierce since July 2006.
Colleen, daughter of "Sharky" and Earlene Stenzel, grew up in Pierce and
graduated from
Timberline
High School.
Harv, originally from Sandpoint, and Colleen are both graduates of the
University of Idaho, where they met.
Harv served for 24 years in the United States Marine Corps and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 2002. They have four grown children and nine grandchildren living in California, Utah and North Carolina. Harv and Colleen lived for four years in Dallas, TX attending Christ For The Nations Bible Institute and working as the head of Security for the campus. From Dallas, TX to Pierce, ID was a much desired, long anticipated return home for this couple.
From the Texas metroplex of over six million people to a town of 600 was a welcome change and they love living in the beautiful Clearwater country and being part of the community.
Harv teaches math at Timberline Schools and is a Pierce City Councilman, as well as serving a second year as the President of the Pierce-Weippe Chamber of Commerce. Colleen is the Chamber secretary and together they see the value of promoting healthy businesses and economic growth on the hilltop in order to provide a fuller range of jobs and services for residents and visitors.
Harv would like to see Pierce, Weippe and the Clearwater back country continue to grow as a recreation destination. They enjoy being owners and hosts at the 'family friendly' Outback, which rents cabins, suites, ATVs and snowmobiles. They also have RV sites and a small gift shop.
A highlight for them is the variety of guests who stay at The Outback, to include hunters, fisherman, skiers, off-road motor enthusiasts from around the nation and people in the local area who are looking for that special retreat.
