OHS to host 2A District Baseball The 2A District Baseball Tournament begins Thursday, May 8, at 2:00 pm. at the OHS Baseball Complex. OHS will also host state baseball beginning Thursday, May 15. Tournament Schedule THURSDAY Game 1 #2 Grangeville vs. #3 Potlatch 2 p.m. Game 2 #1 Orofino vs. Loser of Game 1 4 p.m. Game 3 #1 Orofino vs. Winner of Game 2 6 p.m. FRIDAY 4 p.m. Top two placers of round robin play. If all three teams are tied with 1-1 records Orofino will receive bye as they were the league champions. Tournament is double elimination. 6 p.m. game if needed |

Wright dominates in non-league win over Moscow Orofino pitcher D.J. Wright maintained a shutout until the seventh inning, as the Maniacs claimed a 5-2 non-league baseball triumph over Moscow on April 30. Wright allowed four hits and no walks while striking out six. The Bears didn't score their two runs until the seventh, and those came thanks to three Orofino errors. Orofino also got 3-for-3 hitting and three RBI from Wright. Frank Haskett drove in two runs with a double. Cummings also lauded the defensive work of right fielder Justin Gering and center fielder Jeff Vicory. Maniacs trounce Garfield-Palouse Cody Newman batted 4-for-5 and Mike Lacey pitched a four-hitter as Orofino trounced Garfield-Palouse 11-1 in a six-inning non-league game May 3. Ricky Breeden collected three RBI while D.J. Wright and Justin Gering added two apiece as the Maniacs pushed their record to 16-1. Lacey struck out six and walked one, despite a tendency to fall behind in the count. "He went to a 3-0 count four or five times and struck the guy out or got him to hit a ground ball," Orofino coach Bo Cummings said. "Defensively we played very well. Vicory pitches shutout against Potlatch Orofino pitcher Jeff Vicory tossed a two-hit shutout and also provided a two-run single in the Maniacs' Central Idaho League win over Potlatch May 2. Vicory struck out three and walked four. Orofino notched three runs in the second, with Vicory and Justin Gering driving in the runs. The Maniacs managed just four hits off Potlatch pitcher Dustin Shepherd. He notched seven strikeouts. Orofino will be the top seed in the 2A District II tournament May 15. Lady Maniacs secure No. 2 seed with sweep of Kamiah Jenne Jasper held Kamiah to five hits over 10 innings as Orofino swept the Kubs in a Central Idaho League finale May 5, and secured a No. 2 seed for the district tournament. The scores were 15-8 and 20-1. Alyssa Schrader drove in three runs in the opener and Kacie Presnell slugged a three-run homer. In the second game, Orofino's first seven batters registered hits to spark a 10-run outburst. The game ended after three innings as Jasper and Presnell collected four RBI apiece. Lady Maniacs sweep Potlatch Krystal Sherrill drove in six runs in the second game of a doubleheader to help Orofino post a sweep of Potlatch May 2. The Maniacs won the Central Idaho League contests 22-3 and 18-6. Sherrill finished the day with four hits, including a double. Alyssa Schrader also collected four hits and drove in four runs in the second game. Jenne Jasper picked up the wins on the mound. She struck out seven in the opener and eight in the nightcap for Orofino, which improves to 10-6 overall and 6-2 in league.
