   The United States Achievement Academy announced that Melissa Harris of Peck has been named a United States National Award Winner in Physical Education. Melissa is the daughter of Bill and Sue Harris.

   Bruce McLaughlin, Cody Beck and Cody Stanton raced at Washougal, Wash. earning trophies and qualifying to race in the AMA Loretta Lynn Amateur National Championship in Tennessee later this summer.

   Murph and Art Neumeyer will be Grand Marshals for Orofino Lumberjack Days and Clearwater County Fair Sept. 19.

   Rachell Bernice Freeman and Paul Andre Larsen both of Orofino will be married June 20 at the First Baptist Church. She is the daughter of Fenton and Cindy Freeman and he is the son of Dorian and Pat Larsen.

   The Gift Gallery opened in the Village Square last week with expanded space and storage. Rose Clay is the owner assisted by Cindy Freeman.

   The 14th annual Pierce 1860 Days pageant was held Sunday. Queen for 1983 is Elaine Maki. Her court consists of Joan Brown, Henrietta Brown, Billi Bonner and 1983 Miss Congeniality was Wendy Osborn.

   The purchase of Orofino Parts and Equipment Inc. by Olive Auto Parts and Equipment Inc. was announced this week by Bob and Les Olive of Kamiah.

   Freeman Creek recreation area is now open to vehicle access.

   Members of the 1983 OHS girls track team are Tracy Kimberling, Dana Vaughn, Shelley Hicks, Linda Graves, Erica Arao, Brenda Peterson, Barbara Ziwisky, Melinda Johnson, Lori Teed, Debisu Russell, Stacy Ponozzo, Denise Bunch and Angela Spinella.

   Pamela Sue Brown and Tama Lou Brown, twins of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brown have been named valedictorian and salutatorian of the 1978 Orofino High School graduating class.

   Two day Motorcycle Reliability Trials were held at Fort Hood, TX. Five Orofino riders competed and returned with the following results. Mark Deyo, in the 250 class finished with a gold medal. Randy Hasselstrom finished with a silver medal in the open class.  In the 175 class Alan Deyo received a gold medal and Doug Mattson received a bronze medal. Carl Peterson ran into quite a deal of trouble and did not finish.

   Ned Cannon, law student, and Carol Yenni, senior home ec. major, received distinguished honors at the U of I May Fete presentations.

   Sale of 11 buildings at the former Bungalow Ranger Station was affected for returns of $920 as rangers prepared to wipe out the last vestiges of the early day station serving as entrance to most of the North Fork and Kelly Creek.

   First road to the area came down from Oxford in 1930. The road was built over Shanghai to open the CCC development.

   Potlatch Forests, Inc. officials changed its name to Potlatch Corporation as of April 30.

   Valedictorian of the 1963 OHS graduating class is Bette Lynch and Kitty Collins is salutatorian.

   In Boise last week for the YMCA Youth Legislature session were Patsy Reed, Leonard Spreiter and Cheryl Vanderpool all from Weippe.

   Grade 4 - Mrs. Peer-Making 100s in spelling were Gary Bessent, Ricky Chase, Roy Clark, Monty Crawford, Russell Ehlinger, Gary Fay, Steve Hovey Rhonda Irby, Jennie Marquette, Steve Pruitt, Shelli Secrest, Teresa Sutton and Vicki Williams.

   An estimated 200 Clearwater County loggers will return to work this week if rains do not blanket the area.

   A freak of nature in the form of a two head bull snake is exhibited in a glass jar in the window of Thomas’ Sport Shop on Johnson Ave. The reptile was discovered and captured by Arlie Bryant while fishing on the banks of the Clearwater River. The snake could eat via either head and had grown to the length of 14 inches

   Last week five evergreens were received from the University of Idaho forest plantation and were set out on the court house lawn. They are in commemoration of the five men from Clearwater County who gave their lives in the World War.
