$1.49 M supplemental levy and trustee election May 20

   Trustees of Joint School No. 171 have set the Supplemental Levy amount at $1.49 million. This is an increase to last year’s levy in the amount of $190,000.

   The Board of Trustees chose not to make cuts in certificated staffing to help protect current programs and maintain student to teacher ratios at a reasonable level.

   Since 2008 values are not yet available, the best estimate is to calculate the levy rate, using 2007 market value and home owner’s exemption information. The rate will increase approximately 33.3 cents per thousand or #25-$30 increase in taxes for a house with a value of $150,000 less the homeowner’s exemption. These amounts are estimated and will fluctuate some when the new market value and homeowner’s exemptions are applied.

   The budget being developed for the 2008-09 school year includes the $1.49 million supplemental levy in order to fund the remaining maintenance and operations of the District.

Trustee election

   Trustee election will also be held that day May 20 for a Trustee in Zone 3.

   Polls are open on May 20 from noon until 8 p.m. at Cavendish/Teakean School, Peck Elementary School, Timberline Schools in Pierce, U.S. Forest Service Building, Weippe Elementary School, Orofino Junior High School and Orofino Elementary School.
