Feral cats on College Ave. to be caught May 13-30

By Sherrie Chambers, Clearwater Humane Society

We will be trapping feral (wild) cats on College Ave. starting Tuesday, May 13 through Friday, May 30. These cats are in the area by the Methodist Church and the Museum. We are asking all people in the general vicinity to keep their cats inside each evening after 5 p.m. Cats who are let outside wander near and far. We want to catch only the cats that are feral from this area.

If you know someone who owns a cat please let them know about our trapping/relocating program. We want everyone’s owned cats to stay with their owners. Some of the problems with feral cats are: They are not vaccinated and carry diseases that can be passed to owned cats, they are not altered, and they reproduce at a very rapid rate.

For all of you that own a cat please use a “break-away” collar. They are made for cats. If they climb trees, etc, it allows the collar to break away for their safety.

Please also have a pet ID on your cat’s collar. As with dogs, if they stray the person finding them can contain the cat and call the owner.
