Clearwater Career Fair well attended

The 2009 Clearwater Career Fair in Orofino was held on April 30. Approximately 350 youth from high schools in Nezperce, Prairie, Kamiah, Kooskia, Timberline and Orofino along with the Orofino Junior High were in attendance. The Idaho Department of Labor sponsored the event with partnerships from the Orofino Chamber of Commerce, Clearwater Business Committee, Orofino Kiwanis, LCSC Advisory and State Hospital North.

Over 30 businesses and careers were represented, such as; law enforcement, banking, health care, electrical lineman, forestry, fish and wildlife, heavy equipment operating and logging. This year the students were given the opportunity to gain experience operating heavy equipment such as a front end loader, grader, skidder, feller buncher, log truck and dump truck.

They were also challenged in other areas to learn how wage ranges vary by occupation, about credit scores and they were able to broadcast live on the radio.

The students were also able to participate in a scavenger hunt, which resulted in fantastic door prizes.
