Orofino receives “Tree City USA” award
The City of Orofino for the eighth consecutive year was presented “Tree City USA” award with a ceremony in the park, last Saturday, April 26.
As a “Tree City USA,” a community must meet several standards: a tree committee to direct the care of trees, development of a community tree care ordinance, maintenance of a comprehensive community forestry program, and observance of Arbor Day with an annual proclamation noting the day.
The City of Orofino proudly boasts of a committee (Urban Forests of Orofino), a tree ordinance (Ordinance #674), a forestry program set up through the Urban Forests committee and observance of Arbor Day through a proclamation signed in 2000, by former Mayor Pippenger.
The Tree City USA title and award help make people aware of community tree planting and tree care activities. Citizens can become personally involved in tree planting, and in the care of city trees in parks and along streets.
The citizens of Orofino and the Urban Forests committee have done a great job of caring for the trees that have been planted in this community.
