Dr. Phillip Petersen to teach LCSC Outreach Class
Dr. Phillip
Petersen, Family Practice physician at
Clearwater
Valley
Hospital
and Clinics since 1993, will be teaching a three hour class through the Lewis
Clark State College Outreach Center on Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. The
topic of his talk, Prescription Drug Abuse, will mainly focus on adolescent
abuse.
The class will include information on the prescription drugs most commonly being abused, the physical side effects, and identifying signs of abuse and treatment strategies.
“I wish there was no need for this topic or presentation, but, unfortunately, there is. I think the youth of each generation pick a different risky behavior to engage in. Unfortunately, this generation seems to be choosing behaviors that are extremely dangerous and can carry lifelong consequences,” said Dr. Petersen. “The more the teachers, parents and adults in the community know about a problem the easier it is to prevent it.”
Dr. Petersen’s talk is the second in a two part class. The first session was offered in early March. If participants attend both sessions they can receive one college credit from LCSC. However, anyone can attend the May 9 session. The cost is $5 for non credit, $73 for credit for Idaho Certified Teachers and $215 per credit for all others.
