   Charity Reed was crowned the 1993 Orofino Celebrations Queen during the annual pageant last weekend. First princess is Christy Roughton and Heather McLean is second princess.

   Jacob West, Dylan Midstokke and Rudi Knapik are first, second and third place winners in Barney’s Sooper annual Baby Photo contest.

   Colette Anderson daughter of Layne and Pat Anderson has been called to serve on an 18 month mission for the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bulgaria.

   Eight new members were inducted into the Timberline High School National Honors Society. New members are Greg Robinson, Heather Nelsen, Michelle Crutcher, Melanie McBride, Tricia Burgess, Jeff Good, Todd Kinard, Kristen Hart.

   Another early day business changed hands recently with the purchase of the White Hotel by Arnold Erickson from Mary Kiiskila. Tom died a year ago and since then Mary has been assisted in the business by Eva Mae Una.

   Robert Miles has been named a United States National Award winner in mathematics by the United States Achievement Academy. Robert is a freshman at Timberline High School and the son of Grant and Sharon Miles.

   After a year and half absence Susan Engle of Kooskia has retuned to work at the Clearwater Tribune. Susan worked at the Tribune from May 1985-August 1986. She left to pursue her Associate of Applied Science in Printing Technology from Lewis-Clark State College in 1987.

   Corps of Engineers announced it would reduce the flow and pourer output from Dworshak Dam for the remainder of the spring run-off. Earlier indications are that the snow pack has not developed in March as earlier indicated.

   Returning steelhead spawners passed the 7000 mark at Dworshak Dam Hatchery overloading capacity of the anadromous fish facility and speeding plans to plant surplus stock in tributary streams from Golden, Idaho to Potlatch Creek.

   Diane McLean, in the discus, Donna Adams in the 400-meter dash and Leslie Smith in the long jump all put in outstanding performaces in a track meet held here this week.

40 Years Ago

   Forty thousand pounds of steel in each of the 30-ft long, 19-ft. pen stocks will be moved from Ahsahka yard to near the View Point. The Dworshak Dam cableway can pick them up in a new Peerless Trailer.

   Naomi Rood and Monti Teed, Weippe were awarded scholarships from the PFI foundation.

    Jean Steiner and Ben Lougee were married March 29 in Las Vegas, Nev.

   Mr. and Mrs. Vern Thornton announce the engagement of their daughter Donna Rae, to Danny Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brown, all of Rt. 3, Orofino.

   Confirmation of arrangement was completed for construction of a new $125,000 bowling alley for Orofino on lots purchased from Richard Pease.

   Grade 3 - Mrs. Brock - We finished the unit in arithmetic and the following received 100’s Alan Brooks, Kenneth Dykes, Tommy Miller, Joyce Hengen, Terry Renshaw and Mike Una.

   Gary Floan, three sport letter winner and captain of the Maniac district champion basketball team, was named winner of the annual Vandal Booster trophy as the year’s outstanding athlete.

55 Years Ago

   Dale Scott, Ontario, Ore., has taken over duties as cashier-clerk at the Camas Prairie Railroad station.

   Riverview Drive In Theatre held its Grand Opening featuring “Red Skies Over Montana”.

   Miss Joan Danner and John West, Orofino eighth grade, Gary Bennett, Weippe seventh grade, and Phyllis Henderskatt, Pierce seventh grade were winners of the VFW Post 3296 citizenship essay contest.

60 Years Ago

   The Orofino plant of the Washington–Idaho Lime Products Company has been sold to the Compania Maniera of Peru. Plans call for early dismantling and shipment to Peru.

70 Years Ago

   Pres. Roosevelt approved an allocation of $18,000 for the Greer Hill project.
