Voters to decide May 20 on $1,490,000 supplemental school levy

   School District #171 board of trustees will ask voters to pass a $1,490,000 supplemental levy in an election May 20.

   The levy is for the purpose of paying all lawful expenses of maintaining and operation of the schools of the district for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2009.

   An elector must be a registered voter who has resided in this state and this school district at least 30 days before the election.

   Polls will be open from 12 noon until 8 p. m. May 20 at the following locations:

   Pierce Elementary School, Weippe Elementary School, Orofino Elementary School, Cavendish-Teakean School, Peck Elementary School, United States Forest Service building on Hwy 12 and Orofino Junior High School.

   Qualified voters who expect to be absent May 20 or unable because of a physical disability to go to a polling place may vote by absentee ballot.

   Written application for an absentee ballot may be made to the Clerk of the Board of Trustees on a form made available at the school district office at 1051 Michigan Ave., P. O. Box 2259, Orofino 83544.

   The absentee ballot must be received by the clerk no later than 8 p. m. on the day of the election.
