Fraser enjoys the sun
By Norma Brand and Cathy Walker
The residents of Fraser spent the weekend outside working in their yards. We enjoyed a break from the April showers from Saturday through Monday. The forecast is for more rain and possibly some snow, so don’t put your tomato plants in the gardens just yet.
Shirley Lutes and her neighbor, Asya Pratt, took time to pick up the debris along the gravel roads in Fraser. It’s amazing how many cans and bottles are thrown out as people drive through our area. Thanks Shirley and Asya, we appreciate your efforts.
Peggy and Reggie Ball attended the Fundraiser for Jack Smith on Saturday, April 26. The potluck lunch started at 11 a.m. at the Weippe Community Center. This event was well attended. There were so many friends and neighbors they couldn’t all get into the building. Peggy reported they stayed until 9:30 p.m. and enjoyed visiting with everyone.
Fraser residents included Wanda and Dave Strong, Sherry and Larry Schlader, Mike Green, Jerry and Sandy Moore and Bev and Barry Bailey. The fundraiser was very successful and will be used to help with Jack’s medical expenses. Entertainment was provided by the Graham Brothers from Kamiah. Jack Smith has sung and played music around this area for many years. It was a special treat for everyone when he and his musical partner and friend, Monte Vanderpool, played for the crowd. The residents of Fraser send their love and best wishes to you Jack.
Marie Green and Norma and Steve Brand met with Idaho State Grange Master, Dallas Cheney, and his wife, Florence, on Monday, April 28. The meeting took place at the Fraser Community Center. The Fraser Grange Charter and other items were returned to the State Grange. Marie is the only living Charter Member of the Fraser Grange. Her son, Mike, brought her to the community center.
Chuck McHone was taken to the Clearwater Valley Hospital on Friday, April 25. His family hopes to have him home again soon. We are all pulling for you Chuck.
Peggy Ball attended the planning session for the 1973 Class Reunion. It was held at Bev Bailey’s home on Sunday, April 27.
The Midnight Sun Welsh Pony Ranch had a “Pony Party” on Saturday, April 26, so everyone could meet the new arrivals. Sharon McHone reported they had 15 people attend. Clearwater County Chief Deputy Sheriff, Chris Goetz and his wife, Brittany, brought their 1½ year old daughter, Ava, to meet the babies.
The little filly named Crystal was the star of the day. She spent the afternoon with everyone, and tried one of the cookies Sharon had baked. It didn’t taste good to her. Although the raspberry lemonade was another story, she drank it out of a glass and ended up with pink lips.
Sharon said it was a “way fun” day and everyone had a good time. She threatened to check out everyone before they left to make sure the four babies stayed with their mommy’s.
Get your hummingbird feeders out, they are back. One was spotted at the Brand Ranch and one was flying in Cathy Walker’s breezeway on Monday, April 28.
This is a reminder to purchase your tickets for the Mother’s Day Prime Rib Dinner now. The event will be held on Saturday, May 10. For tickets call Norma at 435-4354 or Janet at 435-4439. You can reserve them and pick them up at the door on the day of the dinner. This will give the committee an idea of how much food to prepare.
A dead deer was reported to the Idaho Fish and Game Department on Monday, April 28. It had been shot and died at the corner of Cottonwood Road and Lower Fords Creek Road. Steve Brand contacted the department office in Lewiston, who then sent Sr. Conservation Officer John McLain to check on it and he removed it.
Janet Kingen reported her grandson, Brandon Woods, drove down to Fraser and spent two days with them. Brandon brought his friend, Greyson, with him. While they were at the ranch, they helped Pete cut some firewood.
The FCCLA Talent Show and spaghetti dinner was held on Friday, April 25, at the Timberline Schools’ Cafeteria. They were both well attended. The money raised went to help pay for the cost of competing at the State Level and to send the team of Hayden Jared, Tanner Jared, and Josh Stuart to Orlando, Florida, to compete at the FCCLA Star Event Competition at the National Level. They will compete July 13-17, and present their project on “Positive Interaction” which involved integrating Kindergarten through 12th grades.
Karen Fowler and Cathy Walker attended the talent show and really enjoyed it. There is a lot of talent at Timberline Schools, and the hour long show had a wide variety of talent that involved kindergarteners to teachers who performed a comedy act; elk bugled; sang; juggled; played the keyboard, recorder, and the fiddle.
The winners of the Talent Show for the individual category were first place to Teena Watson who sang “She’s in Love with the Boy” and second place to Austin Blain with his juggling act. Winners of the group category were first place to “Super Cooper and the Hannah Montanaettes” for their performance of “Who said I can’t be Superman.” Their group was Billi Cooper, Cady and Chasta Jared, Marissa and Alyssa Supak, Erin Sellers, and Fraser’s very own Shelby Bird and Caitlin Brown. Second place was awarded to Nicole Foster and Moriah Strom who sang “Stay Beautiful.” The judges were Marge Kuchynka, Linda Lange and Linda Wood. We appreciate their assistance.
It was nice to see older students help the younger students prepare and direct them to where they were supposed to be.
A big thank you goes to Shannon Osborn who is the FCCLA Advisor for all her direction and help.
The Timberline Schools Spring Concert for Kindergarten through 6th grades which is under the direction of Mrs. Patty Blain will be held on Thursday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Timberline Gym with refreshments to follow in the cafeteria. Please come out and support them.
Norma Brand and Cathy Walker wish everyone a Happy May Day!
