Idaho Supreme Court debates air May 4 on Idaho Public Television

Idaho Public Television, in conjunction with the Idaho Press Club and the League of Women Voters, continues the more than 30-year tradition of broadcasting statewide political debates beginning with candidates for the Idaho Supreme Court Tuesday, May 4, at 8/7 p.m. MT/PT.

The debates will be carried on IdahoPTV and held in front of a live audience in the Senate Auditorium, West Wing Room 2 (WW02) of the Statehouse.

“The Idaho Debates are the only live televised statewide events that will be broadcast during the primary season. In many instances, these debates serve as the only way Idahoans from all corners of the state can hear from the candidates vying to represent them,” says producer and moderator Thanh Tan. “Each of these debates is significant, but perhaps none more so than the one between Supreme Court Justice Roger Burdick and his challenger, John Bradbury. The November election will not be a factor in this race. The May primary will determine who will serve on Idaho’s highest court.”

Idaho primaries are May 25

The 130 seats in the Senate Auditorium will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open May 4 at 7 p.m. and close at 7:45 p.m. Cell phones, signs and outbursts such as applause or derisive shouts are prohibited during the debates.

The airtimes on IdahoPTV for the other debates are as follows:

·   U.S. House of Representatives, District 2, Republican candidates: Sunday, May 9, at 7 p.m. MT/PT

·   U.S. House of Representatives, District 1, Republican candidates: Tuesday, May 11, at 8/7 p.m. MT/PT

·   Governor, Republican candidates: Tuesday, May 18, at 8/7 p.m. MT/PT.

Funding for the Idaho debates is provided by the Boise State University College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, the Friends of Idaho Public Television Inc., and the Idaho Pubic Television Endowment. Additional information is available at
