Supplemental levy
election set for May 18
Based upon the loss of state
funding for public education, the Joint School District No. 171 Board of
Trustees will submit a supplemental levy ballot for $1,740,000 to voters on May
18. The amount is $250,000 more than last year’s levy.
Even with the requested
increase, school property tax rates for Joint School District No. 171 are below
regional and state averages.
The Supplemental Levy,
approved annually by voters, plays an important role in providing quality
education for students in our community and in maintaining and operating schools
in the District. The levy provides $1 out of every $5 spent in the District’s
general fund budget.
Based on 2009 market values
and home-owner exemptions, an increase in the supplemental levy of $250,000
would result in the following:
Property assessed at $100,000:
an increase of $22.04 per year or $1.84 per month
Property assessed at $200,000:
an increase of $44.07 per year or $3.67 per month
Based on 2009 market values
and home-owner exemptions, the $1,740,000 supplemental levy would result in a
$153.37 tax for a property assessed at $100,000 and $306.74 tax for a property
assessed at $200,000.
Polls will be open from
noon to 8 p.m. at Cavendish School, Peck
Elementary, Pierce Community Center, U.S. Forest Service, Weippe City Hall,
Orofino Junior High, and Orofino Elementary School.
Please contact the School
District Office at 476-5593 if you have any questions about the levy or about
programs offered at our schools.
