Rebekah Lodges send local youth to U.N.

   The Rebekah and Oddfellow Lodges in District 10 have raised the money to send a high school student to the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Program. The money for this program is raised through the sale of raffle tickets in the various communities within the district.

   The raffle was for a hamper full of linens and kitchen/ household items and other gifts. The drawing was held on April 12 during the District meeting in Weippe. A total of 24 items were raffled off.

   Local winners were Shannon Osborne, winner of a blue blanket and a 5 piece canister set; Rick Bailey, Jeri Sinclair, Shirley Lutes, and Janet Hartig all won kitchen towel sets. Maryann Anthony won a relish server, Bea Johnson won a botanical peach bath set, Ellen Platt won a chrome chess set, Katie Bird won a fancy hat and Teri Larson won a tote bag. Pat Rayner won the hamper.

   The Rebekahs thank all who helped support this program.

   Andrew Blain is the 2008 delegate for this program. To win this he took a written test on the United Nations and presented a short speech. Congratulations to both Andrew and Pat.

Congratulations

   Dakota Evens, student at Timberline Schools, won third place for 3rd grade in the Idaho Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl poster contest. This contest is sponsored by the National Garden Clubs along with the Forest Service and is open to students in grades 1-5. As a state winner, Dakota will complete nationally for round trip airfare and accommodations for four to Washington, D.C.

   Norm Steadman was the winner of the Weatherby Rifle with Leopold Scope at the Pierce-Weippe Chamber Dinner and Auction. Congratulations to both.

FCCLA Talent Show

   Family Career and Community Leaders of American (FCCLA) is a student organization that promotes teen involvement in community service projects. This year the Timberline chapter is putting on a talent show and spaghetti feed, Friday, April 25.

   The spaghetti feed starts at 5 and the talent show at 6.

Benefit for Jack Smith

   Saturday, April 26 at 11 am you can enjoy a potluck dinner at the Weippe Community Hall.  Auctioneer Leroy Kuykendall will take front and center at 1 pm to bring in the bucks with your donated items.  Drop those things in Weippe at the Elkhorn, 435-4626, or in Pierce at the Flame Bar, 464-2324

   There will be a Cake Walk, raffle for ˝ beef, cut and wrapped or HR pump shotgun or…a homemade quilt. After the auction the Graham Brothers will provide music.

Mother’s Day Dinner

   Norma and Steve Brand created the very spring-like colorful signs for the Fraser Community Center Mother’s Day Prime Rib Dinner. Check ‘em out as you drive through Fraser. Tickets are available for this fundraising event. Eating times are 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. this year. 

   The cost is $12 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12, and 5 years and under is free.  Please purchase your tickets before May 5 so the organizers will know how much food to buy.  Contact Norma at 435-4354 for more info.

Mini-Cheer Camp

   A Mini-Cheer Camp is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, from 9 to 2 in the THS Gym for grades K through 6. Contact Samantha Marshall at 435-4285 or call during week days THS 435-4411. Forms are at Timberline Schools.

Fire Dept. Auction

   A reminder that the Annual Fire Department Auction is May 17.

Dutch Oven Cook-Off
“Cooking along the Trail”

   The call is out for Dutch oven cooks, “Come and cook it!”  The cook-off will launch the 8th Annual Weippe Camas Festival – “Tales, Trails, and Trading” - May 23 at the Weippe Mini Park. 

   The next call will be, “Come and get it!”  For $1/scoop cook-off entries will be judged by diners who will choose category winners and the overall “People’s Choice Award.”   Prizes will be given.

   The cook-off has been a huge success in the past.  Don’t miss the fun. Cooks must pre-register by May 10.  Submit your recipe with your registration for our future cookbook.  No entry fees.  Forms for this event are available at Weippe Public Library.

You Heard It Right

   Surely Spring cometh…and with it the Camas…and the Camas Festival.  The dates are May 23 – 25.  The schedule is made, lots to see and do; Friday will offer “Cooking along the Trail”, Dutch oven fest and melodrama, "Treachery at Cartilage Creek" or "Our Hero Has a Bone to Pick"; the “Tales, Trails & Trading” on Saturday with music, entertainment, speakers, food, Indian dance, vendors and melodrama; and Sunday’s Trail Music & Lunch followed by the final melodrama performance.  Check it out at www.weippe.com.

Farmer’s Market

   A Farmer’s Market is starting in Pierce on Saturday, May 31 from 8 to 3. Vendors will be in the S & S Foods parking lot. Call Rawhide at 435-4503 with your questions.

Dust Abatement – deadline approaching

   Sign-up at the District office or by mail for dust abatement before the deadline April 30.  Prepayment is required.

Snow plowing

   By now everyone has probably heard the Highway District will not be plowing private driveways next winter. Anybody have any suggestions has to how we can get this done? There are probably people that have equipment to do some of the plowing, how about letting us know if you are considering offering this service. Pinochle at the Lodge

   Dolores reports there were five tables of pleasant pinochle players Sunday afternoon at the Lodge. Jack Smolinski won high and Mable Koerling got low, pinochle was won by Pete Kingen and Lori Franchini.

Senior Menu

   Thursday, April 24 lunch will be chicken & noodles, green bean, apricots, roll and butter. Monday, April 28 will be world famous beef stew with green salad, pears and yummy corn bread. As Monday is the last meal day of the month, birthday cake and ice cream will be served.

Library

   Preschool Story Time is Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. April 29. The topic is Seeing, Hearing. The book is Baby Bear, Brown Bear.

   Tai Chi sessions will continue at a private residence, Wednesdays at 4:30. Call 435-4714 for more info.

Condolences

   Our condolences to the family of Charles B. Hubler of Weippe who passed away Wednesday, April 16 at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino. A memorial dinner is planned for Sunday, May 11.
