Beware: Another financial scam going around
A person recently brought into the Clearwater Tribune a letter from Starmark Financial Inc. in Morriston, ONT informing them they had won $250,000.
The letter stated that the tax amount on their winnings is $2,985 to be paid in advance by either Money Gram or Western Union.
The letter gave the recipient a claim number stating they were among 20 persons drawn from 50,000 names to be assigned to the North American Claims Affiliate.
Instructions include a fraudulent check of $4,890 which has been deducted from the winnings to pay for the payment of applicable government taxes on the winnings.
In the letter persons are urged to not attempt to use the check before contacting the claims department.
The person bringing the letter into the newspaper hopes to avoid anyone falling prey to this scam.
