Riverside completes Phase I of water improvement project
Riverside Water and Sewer District has completed Phase I of a three phase water
improvement project with the completion of a new 750,000 gallon storage tank,
some new distribution lines and a new booster station building with new pumps.
In 2005 patrons of Riverside passed a $3.95 million dollar bond for water improvements. The project was split into three phases due to the cost of the project.
The District was awarded a $500,000 Idaho Community Development Block Grant as well as a $681,000 grant from USDA Rural Development and a loan from USDA RD in the amount of $2,045,000. The District is currently seeking an Idaho Community Development Block Grant for Phase III of the project
Worn pumps have been replaced with new state of the art pumps in the new booster station. The telemetry system has been updated. The telemetry system allows monitoring between the water treatment plant and the storage tanks.
With the addition of the 750,000 gallon storage tank, the steel tank which holds 250,000 gallons and the concrete tank which holds 350,000 gallons, the District has total water storage 1,350,000 gallons.
Phase II of the project will be the replacement of distribution lines on Jerome Avenue, 123rd Street and Kent Avenue.
The project should start towards the end of June and will go throughout the summer. There will be periodic road closures, however, patrons will be advised of the work schedule for the contractors and the times when the roads will be closed.

The last phase of the project will be the addition of a dedicated transmission
main from the plant to the tanks and replacement of distribution lines. When
financing has been confirmed for Phase III, then construction will most likely
start in the late spring of 2009.
The board of directors and staff wish to thank the contractor Riverview Construction for their hard work and dedication in completing the first phase of the project which was the largest and most difficult phase of the project.
The board and staff would also like to thank Walter M. Steed & Associates for the grant administration and J.U.B. Engineers, Inc. for engineering the project.
A special thanks goes out to all the board members, Betty Brown, Chairman, Bill Lesmeister, Don Cochran, Ernie Tuning, former board member Steve Bosse and the late Carl Corder for all the many hours spent planning the project as well as to the staff for their constant diligence in overseeing and maintaining the system.
The board and staff will greatly miss Carl Corder who was a significant part of the water improvements. Carl was a board member from 2002 to 2008.
