   Weippe Warriors AAU Girl’s Basketball Team members are Eve Tyler, Ashley Aarve, Cheyenne Jackson, Chelsey McMillen, Heidi Fritchman, Lynnae Tilley, and Heather Degregorio. Kathy Daniels is the girl’s coach.

   Mike Lee was confirmed as the new chief of the Orofino Volunteer Fire Department by the Orofino City Council.

   Morris and Marj Hardman have retired from school bus driving. Between them they have 35 years of experience transporting students to and from school.

   Orofino High School Junior Varsity Girl’s Softball team embers include Kim Smathers, Dulsey Olmstead, Colleen Brown, Melissa Johnson, Amy Lentz, Valerie Shaw, Tammy Perrin, Lisa Isaaks, Susan Halmaier, Barbie Johnson, Terri Leach, Annette Smith, Shannon Tuning, and Dena Wagar. Kurt Savage and Judy Case are the team coaches.

   The 1983 Orofino High Boy’s Baseball team is off to a good start winning 10 of 13 games. Team members are Todd Johnson, Scott Perrin, Mike Schwartz, Dean Thompson, Steve Dempsey, Jason Grindall, Brian Roy, Eric Engle, Mike Walrath, Jim Firzlaff, Rob Wright John Dempsey, Tim Hyde, Chris Dupea, Chris Snyder, Rob Ramsey, Willie Dykes, John Konard, Wade Wilson and Sam Miller. Bo Cummings is their coach.

   Construction of a new shopping center around the Barney Sooper Market store has begun on the Riverside property according to Don Tuntland of Coeur d’Alene.

   Pierce honor student Jeanie Jones, valedictorian, earned a perfect 4.0 honors. Dorothy Hanson was salutatorian.

   Speps Inc. Hidden Village Mobile Home Park is nearing completion on the river edge of Williams Island and will be ready for occupancy in May, reports Harold Stoddard, engineering contractor. There will be 63 units.

   Support for a new road  on the Russell Ridge area  by way of Gilbert Hill and the Bessie Crockett Grade  was endorsed by Orofino Chamber members.

   The Jim Bessents are the parents of a daughter. Tracie Lynn, born April 21 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lewiston.

   Sam Bacharach and Terry Gough will join John Swayne and Steve Calhoun at the Youth Legislature in Boise.

   Murphy Bros. Spokane, won the Ahsahka Bruce’s Eddy access day road contract at $1,364,000. The road goes up the hill from Highway 7 near the Ahsahka Planer.

   Gwen Shearer has bought 7 million feet of National Forest timber in the Bear Creek area above Elk City, first unit of a 23 million foot sale program.

   Army Engineers approval of $24.5000 for flood control expenditures on Big Canyon Creek at Peck was announced by Senator Henry Dworshak. The project included bank sloping, riprap and channel clearing.

   Grade four - Mrs. Peer - We had an arithmetic test cover the times tables. Making 100s were Roberta Mattson, Bob Wilfong, Greg Johnson, Kaye Johnson, Pamela McLaughlin, Frank Coles, Vickie Darr, Jim Heaton, Edward Lanphier, Bruce Lumper, Patricia Myers and Adona Ward.

   Definite plans for tearing down the old remaining wings of the State Hospital north’s long condemned  administration building are being proposed by the new  state board of health.

   Chamber members have protested the abandonment of the train service from Lewiston to Stites route pointing out that much of the route has no alternated bus routes and that dairy farmers shipping milk and cream would suffer.

   Coach Wallace Webster says night baseball for high school teams need a $30 gate to cover lighting and cost of balls lost in the city ball park.

   Ahsahka-A number of Ahsahka residents became quite excited Monday when the Clearwater River came over its banks in several place. It reached the back porch of the Crowley residence.

   The week of May 8-13 will have many activities for the 37 members of the Orofino High School graduating class.

   Neil Shriver’s ”Gentlemen of Swing” will play at the Junior Prom Friday night.
