CVHC wine tasting to feature seven auction baskets
The wine tasting on Friday, April 25 will feature seven silent auction baskets
for bidding during the event. Proceeds from the auction and the function in St.
Theresa’s Little Flower Room will provide camper scholarships for Clearwater
Valley Hospital and Clinics’ pediatric patients with diabetes.
The festivities are from 6:30 -9 p.m. with the auction bidding ending at 8:30 p.m.
One of the special baskets this year will feature a hand decorated wreath by Derry Day, CVHC Auxiliary member. The 36 inch wreath has glass ornaments, silk holly and other Christmas greenery, white lights, gold and red highlights and a decorative bow to tie it all together.
Day is also setting up one of her specially decorated Christmas trees for the event to help promote this year’s Harvest Moon Festival of Trees in November. She and Terry Lester will be donating their talents to decorate a nine foot tree for the festival.
The wreath will be included in a Christmas basket which contains a number of hand made items including a set of home made Christmas cards by Sandy Love, a gold framed cross stitched angel, Lenox holiday candle holders, and a beautiful Christmas decoration made especially by Glenna Mastrud.
The other baskets for the auction include a woman’s basket, a ‘real’ man’s basket, a ‘Day on the Lake’ Basket, a wine basket featuring wines from the region and elsewhere, and a doggie basket. In addition, the Burnham family is donating a handcrafted Wine Stone for the auction.
“Each of the baskets has its own character,” said Jeanette Gorman. “The dog basket includes a dog bed, a matching bowl, a dog collar with embedded art glass created by Terry Lester, a photo frame, special dog toys and every thing else a pampered dog may need. We’ve lowered the number of baskets this year and focused on filling many of them with one-of-a-kind items.”
“I had a good time collecting for the men’s basket,” said Jim May, CVHC Development Director. I decided to call it the ‘real’ man’s basket. Included will be a gift certificate from Dining on the Edge because real men need to eat and another gift certificate from The Cottage for a haircut by Nancy Stillmock. Even real men have to get their hair cut some times.
Perfection Tire, Orofino Build-er’s Supply, Glenwood Pharma-cy, Napa Automotive, Kings Discount Store and Barney’s Harvest Foods have also supplied items that real men are interested in.”
Vern and Nancy Bretz are offering a leisurely ride on their pontoon boat for the ‘Day on the Lake’ basket which also features a Corona ice chest, food for the day, drink glasses, beach towels and other items fitting for a summer day on Dworshak Reservoir.
The theme for this year’s wine tasting is “The Vineyards: 34 Years of Community Support.” Janet Burnham is the decorating chair, Country Catering is providing the hors d’oeuvres and Odom Distributors is selecting the wines and beers.
Freddi Engblom is coordinating the volunteer pourers. “This year we’re having the pourers volunteer for one hour, rather than half hour shifts. Each year we invite different pourers to give everyone a chance to be part of the fun. If you haven’t received a call this year, don’t worry you’ll probably get one next year!” said Engblom.
Tickets are $15 per person and are available to those ages 21 and over. They include five tastes of wine or beer, free punch, coffee and hors d-’oeuvres. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
