Make the transfer station your last stop on Community Clean-Up Day

Clearwater County Transfer Station attendants are gearing up to answer your questions and help you dispose of refuse for this year’s Community Clean-Up Day, Saturday, April 26.

The following items are accepted as waste every day: appliances, passenger vehicle tires (tires larger than passenger vehicle size must be off the rim and quartered), metal, construction/demo, furniture, and yard waste such as clippings and pruned items. Larger materials must be cut to a length of four feet.

Streamline your trip to the transfer station by pre-sorting refuse. First should be metal, followed by wood/construction/ demo. Load household items, such as aluminum cans, newspaper, clean cardboard, batteries, and used motor oil, last.

Separate hazardous household, garden, and shop materials from household waste items. If the product container is leaking, place the entire container in a sealable bucket and label it.

Refuse that will break down naturally qualifies as inert waste. Examples include untreated wood, brush, grass clippings, tree and brush pruning leftovers, furniture, mattresses, windows, and construction materials.

Remember that plastic containers cannot be disposed of in the inert waste area. Please remove lids for easy compaction.

Most tarps should be delivered to the big building floor.

The transfer station hopes to have recycling containers for newspaper, aluminum cans, and plastics in place in time for clean-up day.

There are no significant changes in waste disposal, but persons with questions are encouraged to contact the transfer station at 476-7903. It is open every day, except major holidays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
