Maniacs top Garfield-Palouse in doubleheader

   The Maniacs pulled away from Garfield-Palouse with a nine-run explosion in the fifth inning of game one, then topped the Vikings in the nightcap thanks to a sturdy performance by D.J. Wright on April 11.

   Orofino won 11-1 and 5-2 in the nonleague games.

   Wright went the distance in the second game, striking out nine and walking one while allowing two runs. He also belted a solo home run in fourth inning.

   Jeff Vicory, the Maniacs' opening-game starter, also stymied Gar-Pal. He yielded just two hits and a single run.

   Vicory was backed by a late-blooming offense. Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Orofino (9-1) erupted for five hits and benefited from four walks and a hit batter. Frank Haskett and Dylan Midstokke had two-run singles in the barrage.

   Haskett batted 2-for-2 with three RBI in Game 1 while Midstokke was 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Orofino JV loses to Pomeroy in non-league match-up

   Three Pomeroy pitchers kept the Orofino JV relatively quiet, as the Pirates charged to a non-league 19-2 win April 9.

   Pomeroy started top pitcher Greg Feider, then turned to freshmen Ryan Koberstein and Sean Beale. They limited the Maniacs to four hits and a walk while striking out eight.

   Pomeroy also took advantage of 11 free bases issued by Orofino.

Lady Maniacs cruise past Kamiah

   Orofino exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to cruise past Kamiah in a Central Idaho League game April 8. The Maniacs won 13-3.

   The Maniacs (5-4, 1-0) tallied nine hits in the home half of the sixth to break open a 5-3 contest and invoke the mercy rule. Jessie Jasper paced the offense with three hits, including two triples.

   Jenne Jasper, meanwhile, was solid on the mound, striking out nine.

Base on balls bring down Lady Maniac JV

   The Pirates pieced together three big innings thanks to 17 walks to down the Orofino JV in non-league softball play April 9.

   Pomeroy (3-4) and the Maniacs mustered just one hit apiece, but the teams combined to hand out 31 base on balls.
