Busy time in Fraser

By Norma Brand and Cathy Walker

The second week in April has been a busy time for the Fraser Area.  Four meetings were held at the Fraser Community Center throughout the week.

The Fraser Weed Coalition met on Tuesday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m.  Mike Beard and Clearwater County Weed Control Manager, Denny Williams, led the meeting.  They discussed noxious weeds and which chemicals are the most effective for the on going battle to control them. The importance of proper recordkeeping was stressed.  Turn your personal records over to Mike Beard by June 15. They will compile the information and turn these records over to the State of Idaho.  Fifty-six members attended this meeting; Clearwater County Commissioner, John Allen, was also in attendance.

On Wednesday the Fraser Ladies Get Together Club met at 1 p.m. for their regular monthly meeting. After the meeting, the hostesses, Marie Armitage and Lisa Dahl severed a tasty luncheon. Donna Brown’s granddaughter, Abby Brown, drew the name of Oreta Stuart for the White Elephant gift.  Everyone was pleased to have Darlene Jackson as a guest.  The hostesses for May are Gini Donnelly and Bonnie Kinney.

The new Fraser Community Club met on Thursday at 6 p.m. for a potluck dinner. The program followed the dinner. Candidates for the position of Clearwater County Commissioner in District 1 spoke to the group.  Incumbent Don Ebert and Joy Hall answered questions from the audience. Good Luck to both candidates.

The regular meeting was called to order by President Linda Beard.  The Secretary, Norma Brand, read the minutes of the last meeting and gave the financial report.

Discussion was held on holding the Mother’s Day Prime Rib Dinner again. Last year’s dinner was a fundraiser for the indoor bathroom for the community center.  This year’s proceeds will also be added to this fund.  The four members of the Fraser’s Community Center Board handled the event last year.  It was a lot of work; so this year committees will be formed to help with setting up and decorating, preparing the meal, serving, cleaning up, and selling tickets.  Volunteers are needed for the committees. Call Norma Brand at 435-4354 to put your name down to help.

Mother’s Day Prime Rib Dinner – will be held at the Fraser Community Center on Saturday, May 10. The menu will be Prime Rib, baked potato, green beans, salad, roll and butter, dessert (home made pies), coffee and punch.

You will have a choice of dining at 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.  Choose your time; this will help out the serving committee. Please come and enjoy a fun time with your neighbors and friends. Treat your mom to a wonderful dinner. For more information, please call Norma Brand at 435-4354.

Janet and Pete Kingen are already selling tickets. Contact them at 435-4439 to purchase tickets. Adult tickets are $12, ages 6 through 12 years old are $6, and no charge for children 5 years and under.

Last year’s event was considered a huge success.  Please put the date of Saturday, May 10, on your calendar and come enjoy the delicious food. Thanks to Steve and Norma Brand for painting and installing the colorful tulip billboards advertising this event.

Linda Beard reported there were three tables at the pinochle game on Saturday.  Pete Kingen built the fire to take the chill off the room.  They had a great time and the potluck dinner after the last game was delicious.

Norma Brand attended Bev Bailey’s Open House on Monday, April 7.  She purchased two of the Camas Festival T-Shirts. Bev only made 150 t-shirts and they are going fast. Kathy Coles won the gift drawing for the Carhartt coat.  Kathy is the new owner of the Blue Moose Gift Shop in Pierce.  Bev thanks everyone who attended.

Donna Stickney and Norma Brand attended the Red Hat Luncheon on Saturday, April 12.  It was held at the Flamingo Restaurant in Orofino.  Fran Ciarlo prepared a wonderful menu for the ladies to enjoy.  After lunch, Fran called the numbers while the ladies with the Red Hats played bingo.

Marie Green had company over the weekend. Dick Caron drove down from Wallace on Saturday.  He trimmed her apple tree while her son, Mike, did some yard work.  Her son, Steve, and his wife, Carol, came on Sunday and returned to Boise on Monday.

Mother Nature sure enjoys teasing us.  The weather for Friday through Sunday was beautiful warm sunny days and everyone was enjoying it no matter what they were doing.  Then on Monday she throws in snow again.

Reggie and Peggy Ball enjoyed a visit from the Brands over the weekend.  After lunch, the gals rode the ATV down to Sharon and Mike McHone’s Welsh Pony Ranch.  The herd has four new babies to play with, and the little filly named Crystal followed them around the pasture like a big dog.  She took a special liking to Peggy and Peggy has the pictures to prove it.

While the gals visited with Sharon, Reggie and Steve put boards through the planer.  They will be used to trim out the windows and doors, which is the next step in the house project.

Cassie Bansemer and Chris Anderson took advantage of the beautiful weather on Sunday and rode their horses up Lower Fords Creek Road to visit with Sharon McHone.

Marie and Gerry Armitage took the Fun Bus to Winnemucca, NV. They left on Thursday and returned home on Sunday, April 13.  Marie’s sister, Dorene D’Andrea, and her husband, Jim, made the trip with them.  They had fun and enjoyed their vacation.

Just a reminder - The Democratic Central Committee will be meeting at the Weippe Discovery Center on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.  The public is encouraged to attend.

Timberline School’s FCCLA has a lot of talent signed up for their 1st Annual Talent Show on Friday, April 25th, at 6 p.m. at Timberline Schools.  The cost for the talent show is $2 per person. The spaghetti dinner is $5 per person and will start at 5 p.m.

Connor Wassenberg celebrated his 2nd birthday at Grandpa Mark and Grandma Karen Fowler’s home on Saturday, April 12.  Connor’s mom, Tracy, made him a firetruck cake.  He celebrated with his brother, Darius, his great aunt and great uncle, Mary and Joe Conder, and Lanis and Rosena Aultz.  After the BBQ, Connor opened his presents and then everyone had cake and ice cream.  Conner really enjoyed his truck and horsetrailer with a horse inside.

Tyson and Cheyenne Thornton are the proud parents of a baby girl, GraceLyn Nichole. GraceLyn was born on Thursday, April 10, at 3:17 a.m.  She weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz. and was 20 inches long.  Cheyenne and GraceLyn are doing fine. Grandpa Mike, Grandma Shannon, Tyson’s mom, Susan, and Cheyenne’s best friend, Stephanie Cochrane were present for the birth. GraceLyn missed her grandma Shannon’s birthday by only a few hours.  Carl and Roseanna Thornton were happy to meet their new great granddaughter.

Guy and Cathy Walker attended the 8th Annual Spring Roundup that was hosted by the Clearwater Valley Chapter of the Idaho Outfitters & Guide Association on Saturday, April 12.  It was held at the Orofino City Park.  A fundraiser, benefiting people throughout the Clearwater Valley area through ICARE (Cancer Assistance & Recovery Effort) and college scholarships to four area high schools. They had live and silent auctions, 50/50 board, bucket raffles, an elk bugling contest sponsored by Nightforce and an excellent Rib Eye Steak dinner.  The steak was cooked on the BBQ and some of the entrees were cooked in Dutch ovens.

Happy Birthdays go out to Mike Dahl on April 21 and Linda Beard and Carrie Brooks on April 23.  Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Dahl on April 24.
