Routes in North Fork Clearwater corridor reopened to motorized vehicles

Beginning April 9 an order closing stretches of the Beaver Creek, Pierce-Superior, Deception Saddle and Toboggan Ridge Roads will be lifted. This will allow motorized travel to resume within the North Fork Clearwater corridor in accordance with existing travel regulations.

Tom Reilly, Forest Supervisor for the Clearwater National Forest, closed the roads to all motorized travel in February to protect wintering big-game animals that had been driven to the river canyons by deep snow.

The closure restricted the use of snowmobiles in the North Fork Clearwater River corridor.

Reilly said conditions for wintering big game have improved markedly.
Idaho Department of Fish and Game employees who recently surveyed the area reported elk and deer are now able to move freely on many of the south-facing slopes.

Questions about travel in the North Fork Clearwater corridor should be directed to the North Fork Ranger District in Orofino, Idaho.  The telephone number is (208)476-4541.
