Snow surveys conducted at the end of March showed snowpack conditions on the Clearwater Basin dropping again to 72% of normal. Last month the snow pack was at 75% of average. Last year at this time the snow pack was 62% of normal.
The North Idaho Panhandle and the Clearwater Basin continue to have the lowest snow pack in Idaho.

A reception will be held at the Ponderosa in honor Harriet Reece who is retiring April 13 as managing editor of the Clearwater Tribune.
The new bench at the Peck Post Office was donated by the Big Canyon 4-H Club.
Wrestlers and basketball players receiving special recognition at the Orofino High School (OHS) winter sports banquet were Russ Card, most inspirational basketball player; Jeff Wilson, most valuable basketball player and free throw award; Garett Bretz, most valuable wrestler and Jeff Schwartz, most inspirational wrestler.
Three members of the OHS girls’ basketball team honored were Mona Hairston, most inspirational; Heidi Kludt, most valuable and Michelle Parker, most inspirational.

The United States Achievement Academy announced that Marty Schlader has been named a 1983 United States National Award winner in football.
Nate Gilliam and Sean Varley were chosen to attend Boy’s State at Boise State University May 30 thru June 3.

Boxing has been a heavier money maker than basketball this season, according to figures gleaned from OHSSA treasurer’s reports. Six home basketball games brought in an average of $17.62 per game, while three boxing matches brought in an average of $56.39 per match.

Some encouraging news came from Crawford Strike, Inc. when the crew at the mine had driven a tunnel into the hill 192 feet. They struck or crosscut one of the first leads exposed on the surface of hill and the rock from it looks encouraging.
The management of the Orofino Tennis Courts wishes to announce the courts are ready for early season play.
