Orofino man dies of gunshot wound

Kyle Flerchinger, 20, of Orofino died Friday in a Yakima, WA hospital of injuries suffered Tuesday when he stepped outside a central Washington home to smoke a cigarette and was shot.

Flerchinger was talking with friends Tuesday night in Yakima when he stepped outside and was apparently hit during a shooting at a nearby intersection, the Yakima Herald-Republic reported.

In a news release Yakima police said a 21-year-old Yakima man also injured in the shooting one block away was the intended target of violence.

Police said shots fired from a semiautomatic handgun were not intended for Flerchinger.

The newspaper reported a stray bullet from the shooting struck Flerchinger in the back of the neck.

Yakima police said they are continuing to investigate the shooting and at last report no one has been taken into custody.
