Barking
We have all at one time or another heard the dog that is left in the yard barking while the owners are at work. This monotonous barking is caused by boredom and/or anxiety.
It is important for all dog owners to train their dogs not to bark when they get them as puppies or adults. There are many different training methods. First, the owner has to recognize that this is a form of separation anxiety.
The dog feels abandoned. No one is coming when it cries out for help. Punishment will not work. Dogs, even when punished, will continue to bark. Any attention, even negative, is better than no attention.
There are many places on the internet with How To information on barking. This will help you understand why there is a barking issue and will help educate the owner about ways to retrain the dog’s responses. The owner will not be able to punish as a training method. Rather you will need to educate yourself as to the Why first, then use a reward system for training.
Our policy on strays
All stray dogs and cats are vaccinated upon arrival for their safety and the safety of the other dogs and cats. They are also neutered and spayed on the sixth (6) day. All costs are the responsibility of the owner claiming the dog. Strays are held for five (5) days and then are for adoption.
Wish list
Any and all cash/check donations are greatly appreciated and very much needed.
We really need cat litter right now. Kitten season has already started!
We are looking for land to be donated. We need a shelter. We take in from 300-400 dogs a year. We also take in hundreds of cats and kittens. Because we don’t have a facility to allow us more room, we have to turn away animals. None of us in this wonderful community want that.
Please save blankets for us as the critters love to snuggle in at night. We need nylabones for the dogs and toys for our kittens right now.
You can drop all donations of food, toys, blankets, etc. at Orofino Builders Supply. Steve and Leila Crockett continue to be animal lovers and great supporters. Thank you for thinking of us!
Remember, your donations are tax deductible.
Our mailing address is: Clearwater Humane Society, P.O. Box 2063, Orofino, ID 83544.
For adoption by appointment only

Lost and found
#2 Found in Cavendish – older male Black Lab wearing a collar with no tags. If you know where this dog belongs, please call 476-9823.
If you find a stray dog, please contain the dog and call. Many times I get a call from someone that has a stray but by the time I get there the person calling says the dog ran off. Please contain in a yard or tie the dog until I get there. We want to keep these poor dogs safe and either find their owners or get them a wonderful lifetime home.

If you recognize any of the above strays and know who the owner is, please call. We want to get these wonderful dogs and cats back to their homes. Call 476-9823.
