Fraser roars again

By Norma Brand and Cathy Walker

March came in like a lion and refused to go out like a lamb. The last day of March started with four inches of new snow on the ground and more of the white stuff coming down. Around 10:30 a.m. the blue sky appeared and the sun came out.  It appears Mother Nature is showing her fickle side.  Did someone try to make a fool of her?

The fresh snow has again turned the Fraser area into a winter wonderland.  It’s tempting to stay outside and play, or build a snowman, or go for a hike and record the beauty on our cameras, or have a snowball fight.  The calendar shows that spring is now two weeks old.  The month of April is noted for its showers, time will tell if it will warm up enough to turn into rain.

Mark and Karen Fowler enjoyed Easter at home.  Their grandsons, Darius and Connor, enjoyed hunting for eggs that were hidden around their yard.

Peggy and Reggie Ball enjoyed a visit from Reggie’s mom, Ernestine Ball, and her friend, Lonny Northcut, on Friday, March 29.  They toured the house project and stayed for dinner.  When the snow started falling, they decided it was time to spend the night in Lewiston.

Katie and Mike Bird and their children, Shelby and Cody, spent Easter in Orofino with Mike’s mother, Gayle Swayne, and her husband, Mark.

Michele and Cory Brown and their daughters, Izzy, Caitlin, Abby, and Samantha, drove to Lewiston on Friday, March 21.  They had dinner with Michele’s grandmother, Dolores Barton, at Zany’s Hollywood Grill.  While they were at the restaurant, Breelynn Robinson and all her family stopped in for dinner.  While Michele and the girls were shopping at over the weekend they ran into Breelynn again, she was shopping with her grandparents.

On Easter the Browns spent the day with Maryann and Ron Anthony.

Derek and Caresse Brown invited Caresse’s parents, Chris and Kerry Gautier, to have a late lunch with them on Easter Sunday.

Norma talked with Mike Bird on Monday.  He is getting spring fever and thought he might shovel the snow off his lawn so he could mow the grass.  He also reported his wife, Katie, children, Shelby and Cody, and Tallie Sutton are spending spring break in Walla Walla, WA, with Katie’s parents, Margo and Evan Anderson.

The state of Idaho will have another specialty license plate this year.  Motorists already have a choice of almost 40 different designs to choose from. The latest one is “Wild Open Spaces.”  It features a silhouette of a horse and rider against a back ground of blue mountains and an orange sky.  The draft design of this new western plate appeared in a recent issue of the Capital Press. It looks like it will appeal to anyone who enjoys the western theme.  Watch for it the next time your plates expire.

Marie Green enjoyed a visit from her son, Steve.  He arrived on Sunday, March 27, and returned to Boise on Tuesday.

The week of spring break started on Monday, March 31, this year.  The teachers and students will return to school on April 7.

Fraser Ladies Get Together Club will hold their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 9, at 1 p.m. at the Fraser Community Center. Hostesses are Lisa Dahl and Marie Armitage.

Fraser Boosters 4-H Club will meet on Wednesday, April 9, at the Fraser Community Center. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Guy and Cathy Walker will be cooking bread in their Dutch oven at the Dutch oven cooking class that will be held at the Weippe Discovery Center on Saturday, April 5 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  They have been cooking with their ovens for a number of years. Whatever you can cook in a regular oven you can cook in the Dutch oven.  They hope to see you there.

The 21st Century After School Program will be going to the Weippe Public Library on Friday, April 11 and April 25.  The after school program is doing a lot of fun projects like dough art and basketball, soon they will be starting cake decorating.  If your child or children would like to participate in the after school program, please contact Joy Stemrich at Timberline Schools at 435-4411.

On Thursday, March 27, Cathy Walker talked to Tammy Wayt who lives on Eureka Ridge and Tammy reported they had received nine inches of new snow overnight where at the Walker place there was five inches of new snow.  Cathy told her that she was glad Eureka Ridge had more snow.
