Col. Willoughby S. Goin for their actions during a helicopter medical evacuation mission Jan. 29, 1978 in Kentucky. Cross is a former Orofino resident and an uncle to Brady Jones. The Kentucky Medal for Valor is the highest state decoration which can be awarded to members of the Kentucky National Guard. This is the second award for Cross who was recognized in 1977 for his actions in saving the lives of three women during a flood. The current award is for transporting the victim of an automobile accident in Kentucky during hazardous weather conditions saving her life.
