Fraser celebrates Easter

By Norma Brand and Cathy Walker

Friends and family members exchanged Easter greetings by telephone, through snail mail, e-mail and in person.  It was a little cloudy, but at least it wasn’t raining for those hunting Easter eggs.

Roseanna and Carl Thornton enjoyed an e-mail from their daughter, Sarah Zurflueh, and her family. The Zurfluehs have lived on Kodiak Island for eleven years. They sent pictures of a snowstorm that hit on Saturday, March 22.  Six inches of snow covered the ground before the day was over and they have the pictures to prove it.  Kodiak Island does get snow, but not that much at one time.

Peggy and Reggie Ball’s guests arrived on foot, by car, and ATV’s.  Ron Johnson is building a house next to the Balls’ property so he walked over, the Brands and the Beards rode their ATVs down, and Carl and Roseanna Thornton brought their van. Tours of the house were given before everyone returned to the shop for a potluck dinner. Later in the day the guys went for an ATV ride while the gals enjoyed a visit on the deck and searched for hidden Easter eggs.

Clarabell Brown’s daughter, Nancy Borders, and her husband, Ed, stopped by on Saturday and Carol Borders from Pierce spent several hours with her on Sunday.

The previous weekend her son, Neal, and his wife, Sherry, arrived on Saturday for a visit and returned to Pendleton, Oregon, on Sunday.

Jack and Caryl Smolinski spent a quiet Easter at home.

Diane and Jason Cochrell and their family enjoyed Easter at home.

Ruth and Chuck McHone had a nice Easter at home. Their son, Mike, and his wife, Sharon, brought chicken and dessert over and Ruth provided the salad.  Ruth reported they had a real nice time.

Marie and Gerry Armitage’s grandchildren, Macoy and Breyer Boyer, spent Saturday at the farm. They colored eggs first then had an Easter egg hunt.

Donna and Bill Jackson had Easter dinner at the home of their granddaughter, Heather Burnham, and her husband, Dan.  Heather’s parents Sherry and Larry Schlader, Dan’s parents, Janet and Clark Burnham, and friends visited and enjoyed the tasty food.

Donna reported her daughter, Sherry, is recovering from the roll over accident she was in.  She wasn’t seriously injured, but those bumps and bruises will take a while to heal.

Dale and Oreta Stuart had a full house for Easter.  Their daughter, Carmen Minard, and her daughter, Tessa Brown, drove to Fraser on Saturday, March 22, and returned to Gresham, Oregon, on Monday.  Family members that joined them for dinner Sunday included their daughter, Lisa Calhoun, and her friend, Don Curnutt, from Orofino, their son, Mitch, and his friend, Jeannie Schrecengost, from Lewiston, Mallory Calhoun and Nick Galloway from Moscow, and Tara Wilson and her daughters, Matea and Taylor.

Everyone missed Oreta’s brother, Howard Holt, and his wife, Diane, and Oreta’s mom, Flo Lyons, and her husband, Clem.

Marie Green spent a quiet Easter at home.  Joan Kroupa spent Saturday night with her family in Weippe and stopped in for a visit on Sunday.

Wes Stuart joined Guy and Cathy Walker and sons, Jonathan and Aaron, for Easter dinner.

Jack Smolinski reported he had a call from George McDonald on Sunday, March 16. George was the manager of the grain elevator in Greer until 1978 when he moved back to Texas.  Jack hadn’t heard from George in 30 years, but remembered him as a good warehouse man.  Give Jack a phone call if you want to hear more about the conversation.

Blanche and Vern Kinney and their daughter, Bonny, stopped in at Reggie and Peggy Ball’s home on Thursday, March 20.  They enjoyed a tour of the house and visited with the Brands who had stopped in for a visit.

On Wednesday the Kinney’s spent the afternoon with Lanis and Rosena Aultz.

Fraser Grange #367 members are invited to transfer their membership to the Kendrick Grange.  Please call Vera Hutchison at 208-276-3371 if you want more information.

Oreta Stuart and Clarabell Brown have been enjoying a flock of trumpeter swans.  The swans have settled in the fields and ponds around their homes to feed up before continuing their migration to Northern Canada and Alaska.

Norma called Lyle and Jan Thornton on Monday to get their news. According to the answering machine message, Lyle was spending time in the hen house guarding the eggs so the Easter Rabbit wouldn’t hide them all over the yard.  Were you successful this year Lyle or did he outfox you?

At Guy and Cathy Walker’s house in Fraser, three inches of snow ushered in the first day of spring.

Parent teacher conference for the Jr. High and Sr. High at Timberline Schools will start on Thursday, March 27, from 4 - 7 p.m. and on Friday, March 28, from 8 - 11:30 a.m.  There will be no school for K-6 at Timberline Schools on Thursday, March 27, due to parent teacher conferences.

Spring break for School District 171 will begin on Friday, March 28, and school will resume on Monday, April 7.

Happy Birthday to Randy Brooks on March 29.

Happy Anniversary to Reggie and Peggy Ball on March 29.
