School board approves administrative contracts for 2008-09
Five administrative contracts were approved for the school districts 2008-09 school year. The contracts are for Jerry Nelsen, Orofino High School principal, Shannon Wilson, Orofino Jr. High and Elementary School principal. Angela Baldus, vice-principal at Orofino Jr. High and Elementary, Ron Anthony, Timberline School principal and Janet Mundell, special education director for the school district.
Property appraisals
Two property appraisals have been completed and submitted to Dale Durkee. The Ahsahka road apartments have been appraise at $240,000 and the old forest service site has been appraised at $126,000. Durkee will work with Don Ebert and Staci lee regarding the sale of these properties.
Enrollment
School District # 171 enrollment was 1,281 as of March 1 which is down four from last month at this time and 34 from this time last year.
Other announcements made at the school board meeting Monday were:
Timberline Boys’ Basketball- 2008 I-A Academic State Champions GPA 3.578.
Orofino High School (OHS) Boys Soccer-2008 Academic State Champion GPA 3.29.
OHS Boys Basketball-2008 2-A State Consolation Champions.
Orofino High School Cheerleaders-Second place in National Qualifying Tournament in Portland.
OHS Drill Team competed at Idaho Falls and did extremely well.
“We the People” - Mrs. Danielson’s OHS class received second place in this competition recently.
Shannon Wilson, Orofino Jr. High School and Orofino Elementary School received the Idaho Middle Level Educator of the Year Award.
Anna Grimaldo was the Inland Northwest Regional Spelling Bee winner and will compete in Washington DC the end of May.
A patron expressed appreciation to Wilson for his handling of recent situations at the Orofino Junior High School.
Soccer coach Ken Lamé noted that both the boys and girls soccer teams are doing well. He asked the board to consider possibly funding the coaches salaries as well as transportation expenses for the program.
He noted that the program has endured and excelled over the years and they have done many fund raisers.
Jerry Nelsen noted that two students from OHS would like to participate in a Coop Collective Agreement with the Clearwater Valley High School so they can practice and participate in their tennis team. Nelsen condones the request and the board members approved this request as long as there are no insurance liability issues posed to the district.
Levy
A special board meeting was set for 5 p. m. Friday, April 11 at the district office to set the Supplemental Levy Election amount.
