Town Meeting

The city of Pierce will hold a public hearing to discuss the proposed new water intake project on Orofino Creek for the City of Pierce. Plans to complete the project will be available for the public to review. This meeting will also provide an opportunity to present the progress on the infra structural improvements already in process for the water system.

Representatives from USDA Rural Development, CEDA, Idaho Rural Water Association, and the two engineering firms involved will be available to answer questions. Pierce City council and Mayor are hosting this meeting and encourage the citizens of Pierce to attend this informational meeting which will be held at the Pierce Community Center, March 27 at 7 p.m.

Recycling Project

Tanner Jared, is a student at Timberline High and for his Senior service project is doing newspaper recycling. He has constructed bins for the collection of newspaper and made arrangements for transportation. Recycling paper is a clean and easy task; simply stack folded newspapers into 6” bales and bind them with twine. Place these bundled stacks into the bins for pick up, they will be placed on the covered porch near the fire shed.

Currently, 90% of all newspapers end up in landfills where they degrade very slowly due to low oxygen and moisture. Though no monies will be made from these recycling efforts, the City of Pierce will benefit, as the current cost to transport our collected garbage is substantial.

At this time news-print type paper is all that will be accepted. If this attempt at recycling goes well, efforts to recycle other materials may be initiated.

Please consider recycling your newspapers and help to start conservation efforts in Pierce, a community who fully understands the value of natural resources.
Pierce welcomes back Gloria and Gerry Burnett to town from their winter home in Phoenix. Gerry was impressed with the amount of snow we still have. If he only knew...how much we had earlier this year. Rumor has it that Freddie Bloom actually got a hole in one at Orofino Golf course. His friend’s comment, “that’s pretty astounding for someone who’s never broke under 100.”

Pierce Community Center will have open gym this Friday night.
Logger first aid class is March 20 at the center.

Pioneer Medical Clinic is open as usual from Monday through Thursday with Dr. Crecelius on March 27. Call 464-2578 for an appt.
A Dutch oven cooking class will be offered at the Weippe Discovery Center April 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. Class is limited to 10 people, sign-up at Weippe Public Library no later than April 1. Cost at sign-up is $10 which includes dinner and provides pots, charcoal, and utensils. Call 435-4058 if you have further questions.

Graduates from the class will be ready to compete in the Camas Festival and 1860 Days Dutch Oven Contest.

As expected it was a poor turn out for the 1860 Days meeting. The next meeting won’t be until April 10, due to the town meeting and then spring break. Help is needed! Contact Leslie at 464-1023 if you or your organization is willing to help.
